THE STORYLINE –
Coming off its 69-65 win over Alcorn 10 days ago, ULM (4-7) opens Sun Belt Conference play with a home series against Arkansas State on Thursday, Dec. 29 and Georgia State on Saturday, Dec. 31. The Warhawks are 4-12 all-time in Sun Belt openers since joining the league in 2006-07. ULM has lost 10 consecutive conference openers, with its last win coming against then-Sun Belt member Western Kentucky, 53-49, on Dec. 29, 2011. It marks the second-straight year that the Warhawks have opened league play in Fant-Ewing Coliseum (Dec. 3, 2015, vs. Texas State; L, 50-58).
 
THE TIPOFF –
• Coming off its 69-65 win over Alcorn 10 days ago, ULM (4-7) opens Sun Belt Conference play with a home series against Arkansas State on Thursday, Dec. 29 and Georgia State on Saturday, Dec. 31. The Warhawks are 4-12 all-time in Sun Belt openers since joining the league in 2006-07. ULM has lost 10 consecutive conference openers, with its last win coming against then-Sun Belt member Western Kentucky, 53-49, on Dec. 29, 2011. It marks the second-straight year that the Warhawks have opened league play at home (Dec. 3, 2015, vs. Texas State; L, 50-58).
 
It also marks the third time ULM has faced A-State in its Sun Belt opener, with the Red Wolves winning the two previous meetings in Jonesboro (71-56 on Dec. 29, 2016; and 76-62 on Dec. 29, 2017).
 
• Thursday's game marks the 50th meting between ULM and Arkansas State. The Red Wolves lead the all-time series, 33-16, including a 14-10 record in games played in Monroe, Louisiana. A-State has won five in a row in the series and eight of the last nine meetings overall. ULM's last win in the series came on March 7, 2019, 65-53.
 
• Red-shirt senior guard/forward Kierra Brimzy leads ULM in scoring, averaging 9.5 points per game. The 5-foot-9 Brimzy has scored in double figures seven times this season. She recorded her first career double-double against Champion Christian, finishing with 13 points and a career-best 10 rebounds. Brimzy scored a season-high 18 points in the opener against Louisiana Christian.
 
ULM's playing rotation features three others players who are averaging better than 7.0 points per game, including sophomore forward Katlyn Manuel (9.0 ppg.), graduate center Emma Merriweather (8.8 ppg.) and sophomore guard Olivia Knight (7.6 ppg.). Six different Warhawks have led the team in scoring this season.
 
• Graduate center Emma Merriweather ranks as ULM's leading rebounder (7.9 rpg.) and third-leading scorer (8.8 ppg.). On a minutes-played basis, those statistics are equivalent to 19.2 points, 17.3 rebounds and 3.9 blocked shots per game.
 
The 6-foot-5 Merriweather ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference and No. 28 in NCAA Division I in offensive rebounding, averaging 3.8 per game. She also is listed among the league leaders in blocked shots (second at 1.8 pg.), field-goal percentage (third at .574) and rebounding (fourth at 7.9 rpg.). Merriweather has posted two double-doubles this season, scoring a career-high 30 points and collecting a season-high 15 rebounds against Champion Christian and contributing 13 points and 10 boards against Central Arkansas.
 
• As a team, ULM ranks third in the Sun Belt Conference and No. 25 in NCAA Division I in offensive rebounds, averaging 15.6 per game. In addition, the Warhawks are listed among the league leaders in three additional statistical categories: second in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.0), second in blocked shots (4.5 pg.), tied for second in assists (14.7 pg.) and sixth in turnover margin (+3.3 pg.).
 
ULM IN SUN BELT CONFERENCE OPENERS –  
ULM enters its 17th season of Sun Belt Conference competition with a 4-12 record (.250) in league openers. The Warhawks have lost 10 consecutive conference openers, with their last win coming against then-Sun Belt member Western Kentucky, 53-49, on Dec. 29, 2011. It marks the second-straight year that the Warhawks have opened league play at home (Dec. 3, 2015, vs. Texas State; L, 50-58).
 
It also marks the third time ULM has faced A-State in the Sun Belt opener, with the Red Wolves winning the two previous meetings in Jonesboro (71-56 on Dec. 29, 2016; and 76-62 on Dec. 29, 2017).
