SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State outscored ULM 33-15 in the final 16 minutes, rallying for a 66-58 win over the Warhawks Saturday afternoon at Strahan Arena.
Second-year freshman
Kyren Whittington tried to will the Warhawks to streak-busting win, scoring a career-high 26 points, including 18 in the first half. Texas State was led by Da'Nasia Hood and Kennedy Taylor with 16 points each, while Jaeda Reed added 15 points off the bench. Hood scored 14 of her 16 points in the second half.
ULM controlled the game for the first 24 minutes, but Texas State made adjustments and rallied.
The lead changed hands four times in the first quarter. ULM scored the first four points of the game, as Whittington got the Warhawks rolling. Texas State answered as a 3-pointer by Kennedy Taylor put the Bobcats up 7-6. The Warhawks answered with four straight points, with fifth-year junior
Kierra Brimzy's runner in the lane putting ULM up 10-9. The Bobcats responded with Jaeda Reed's bucket to lead 11-10.
ULM then caught a burst. The Warhawks went on a 10-2 run, with Whittington's 3-pointer proving to be the catalyst. Buckets inside from second-year freshman

Kierra Crockett pushed the lead to 20-13. A 3-pointer at the buzzer by Taylor brought Texas State within four after a quarter, 20-16.
Whittington tallied back-to-back buckets to open the second quarter to extend the lead to eight, 24-16. The Warhawks prevented Texas State from closing the gap early in the quarter. The Bobcats got within five at 26-21, but a free throw by Whittington and a steal and layup by second-year freshman
Gracen Williams extended the lead back to eight, 29-21.
After Texas State scored six straight, including four free throws by Reed, ULM responded with an 8-2 run to end the half. McDowell and freshman
Katlyn Manuel hit putbacks inside, while sophomore
Linda van Schaik knocked down two free throws and Whittington finished a steal with a fastbreak layup for the 37-29 halftime lead. ULM shot 59% from the field in the first half.
ULM started strong in the second half. Manuel knocked down a jumper from the baseline to put ULM up, 39-29. ULM resumed a 10-point lead again after another layup by Manuel, 41-31, and once more at 43-33 on free throws by Crockett with 6:11 left in the quarter.
Texas State answered from there. The Bobcats closed the third quarter on a 17-4 run, tying the game at 47 on a 3-pointer by Taylor with 1:10 left in the third, and then taking the lead on a free throw by Sierra Dickson with 35 seconds left in the quarter. Taylor stole a pass and fed Dickson for the layup to put the Bobcats ahead, 50-47, after three quarters.
In the final frame, the Bobcats extended the lead to nine at 56-47 on a 3-pointer by Hood with 7:45 remaining. ULM closed within five at 56-51 on a layup by Whittington, but Texas State again extended the lead, this time to 11 at 62-51 on a steal and layup by Dickson. ULM pulled within six again, 62-56, on a putback by Whittington, but could get no closer as the Bobcats went on to the win.
