Georgia Southern Defeats ULM, 83-68

MONROE, La. – Georgia Southern used an early 7-0 run to establish the lead and pulled away in an 83-68 win over ULM Thursday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
 
Second-year freshman Kyren Whittington and fifth-year redshirt junior Kierra Brimzy had 15 points each to lead ULM, while true freshman Aasia Sam added 11 and sophomore Linda van Schaik had 10. Daeja Holmes hit five 3-pointers, all in the first half, to lead three Eagles in double figures with 15 points.
 
It was a slow start for both sides, with ULM scoring the first points from Brimzy at the 8:50 mark of the first quarter. Georgia Southern slowly scored the next five points before Brimzy struck again to get within 5-4. The Eagles resonded with a 7-0 run, with Holmes capping the run with her first trey for the 12-4 lead. Two more triples by Holmes pushed the lead to 10 at 18-8. A 3-pointer by Whittington to close the quarter brought ULM within seven, 18-11.
 
ULM cut the gap to five at 22-17 on a basket by Whittington, but Georgia Southern used a 9-0 run to get the lead to 14 at 31-17. ULM was never closer than 10 points the rest of the way. Sam's jumper brought the Warhawks within 10 at 36-26. Holmes closed the half with two more 3-pointers to give the Eagles their largest lead to that point at 16, 42-26.
 
Georgia Southern used a 17-0 run in the third quarter to build a 31-point lead, 62-31. ULM slowly chipped away down the stretch, getting as close as the final of 15 points, 83-68.
 
ULM closes the regular season with Senior Day at 2 p.m. Saturday against Georgia State.
