Sun Belt Announces 2021-22 Postseason Awards & All-Conference Teams

MONROE, La. –
ULM graduate guard Andre Jones, who leads the Warhawks in scoring (15.3 points per game) and ranks second on the team in assists (career-high 108) and steals (career-best 45), has been named to the 2021-22 All-Sun Belt Third Team, as selected by the conference's men's head basketball coaches.

The 6-foot-5, 191-pound Jones has scored in double figures 23 times, including 14 consecutive games during one stretch. He has led the team in scoring 11 times, including seven-straight games during a late-season stretch. In league games, Jones ranks among the Sun Belt's Top 10 in field-goal percentage (third at .461), minutes played (fourth at 35.9 pg.), scoring (fifth at 16.6 ppg.) and assists (tied for fifth at 3.8 pg.).

Jones has recorded seven 20-point performances, including six consecutive games in one late-season stretch to match the longest streak by a Warhawk since Mike Smith during the 1999-2000 season. He averaged 23.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists during that six-game streak while shooting 56 percent (54-of-93) from the field, including 9-of-23 3-pointers (39 percent).

"Andre Jones has consistently played at a high level during the second half of the season," ULM head coach Keith Richard said. "With his combination of athleticism, strength and quickness, he scores a lot of points driving toward the basket, but he also has improved his mid-range game and 3-point shooting. Andre has really been in tune to what we're trying to do on both ends of the floor. I felt he had a good conference season and I'm glad the other coaches in the league thought so too."

He posted back-to-back 20-point efforts in the home-and-home series against the Ragin' Cajuns. Jones netted a team-high 20 points to go along with five assists and a career-best seven steals at the Cajundome. He scored 26 points, connected on 11-of-16 shots from the field, and collected nine rebounds in the series opener in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

Jones delivered a game-high 20 points against Texas State, hitting 6-of-16 field-goal and 8-of-9 free-throw attempts. He contributed 23 points, seven rebounds and six assists in ULM's 74-71 home-court win over UT Arlington.

A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Jones was selected Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week after averaging 25.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists while leading ULM to a league road sweep over Arkansas State and Little Rock. He made 59 percent of his field-goal attempts (20-of-34), including 57 percent of his 3s (4-of-7), and 88 percent (7-of-8) of his free-throw attempts.

Jones scored a career-high 30 points in ULM's 75-72 overtime victory over Little Rock. His two free throws with 7.9 seconds left in regulation sent the game into overtime tied at 64-all. Jones netted 17 of his 30 points after the intermission.

He made 10-of-17 shots from the field, including 1-of-2 3s, and finished with 21 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals as ULM stormed back from a 14-point second-half deficit for a 60-59 win at Arkansas State.

Jones produced 21 points in 26 minutes played in a 104-67 home-court win over Centenary. He hit 8-of-14 field-goal attempts and 5-of-6 free-throw attempts while collecting seven assists against the Gents.

No. 11-seed ULM (13-17, 5-13 SBC) will face No. 6-seed Arkansas State (17-10, 8-7 SBC) in the first round of the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Championship on Thursday, March 3 at 5 p.m. CT in Pensacola, Florida.
