ULM Softball Continues Road Trip with Two Games in Alabama This Week

AUBURN, Ala. –The ULM softball team (12-4) continues its Mardi Gras week road trip with two more games in Alabama. The Warhawks play Alabama State in Montgomery, Ala., Tue., March 1 at 2 p.m. CT and then face Jacksonville State on Wed., March 2 at 2 p.m. in Jacksonville, Ala. Wednesday's game vs. the Gamecocks will be available on ESPN+.
 
"When we committed to play at Auburn, I wanted to make this week fun and take our team on a six-day road trip and play other opponents in Alabama," said ULM head coach Molly Fichtner. "Alabama State and Jacksonville State are not very far at all from Auburn, so that worked out, and we have the opportunity to play some schools on our way home."
 
Updated national stats reveal the Warhawks' rankings this year continue to show marked improvement from years' past. ULM plates 6.31 runs per game, which places it 30th in the country with a team batting average of .314, ranked 40th. An on-base percentage of .408 has the Warhawks in the nation's top 30. The 1.99 ERA, lowered by the weekend's results is 36th.
 
Individually, Warhawks are making their mark on the national charts as well. Lourdes Bacon's 21 hits slot her in 31st place. Korie Kreps moved to 25th with two triples earlier this month. In the circle, Gianni Hulett leads the Sun Belt with her two saves so far this season and is fifth in the country. With a hits-allowed-per-game average of only 2.71, Kassidy Giddens ranks 10 in the nation.
 
Alabama State (7-8) closed out the HBCU Celebration Tournament Sunday night with a 9-1 run-rule victory over Alabama A&M. The Hornets have won three-straight contests with two of their four shutouts at the beginning of their win streak. Kindall DeRamus has 23 hits, the ninth-highest total in the country, and is tied for the team RBI lead with Kiana Parrish. DeRamus has the Hornets' best average at .451, most runs scored with 13 and is ranked eighth nationally with 13 stolen bases. Bailey Greenlee has recorded 48 strikeouts for the top spot in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, good for 43rd nationally. Her 10 appearances this season have resulted in a 4-5 record that includes four complete games and three shutouts.
 
Wednesday's game at Jacksonville State (6-6) will be the third time the Warhawks and Gamecocks meet this season after splitting a pair of games at the Golden Eagle Invitational on Sat., Feb. 19. The Gamecocks lead the Ohio Valley Conference in six stat categories with an on-base percentage of .368. Brantly Bonds has six of the team's 16 doubles for an individual national ranking of 20th and has the No. 29 spot on the national charts with her 1.25 RBI-per-game average. In the circle for Jacksonville State, Lexi Androlevich has the best overall record at 3-2 and Sarah Currie and Kat Carter have each made six appearances.
 
The Gamecocks halted the Warhawks seven-game win streak a 3-2 win in game one. JSU rallied in the bottom in the seventh to send the game to extra innings. In game two vs. the Gamecocks, ULM bounced back with five runs in the final two innings for a 5-2 come-from-behind victory. Four Warhawks had two hits each in the winning effort.
