GAME NOTES
MONROE, La. - The ULM Warhawks meet the Arkansas State Red Wolves at 5 p.m. Monday in a makeup game from Thursday night, when a leak in the roof of Fant-Ewing Coliseum forced a postponement due to moisture on the floor and unsafe playing conditions.
Monday's game will air on ESPN+ with Chris Harris (play-by-play) and Mike Vining (analyst) on the call. The game will also be broadcast on 105.7 FM/540 AM KMLB, KMLB.com and the TuneIn app on the Warhawk Radio Network from Learfield with
Mike Hammett on the play-by-play.
Monday's game marks the 49th all-time meeting between ULM and Arkansas State, with the Red Wolves leading the series, 33-15. A-State has won four straight games in the series, including a pair of wins last year at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. The Red Wolves defeated ULM on Jan. 15-16, 2021, 64-50 and 59-44. ULM last defeated A-State, 65-53, in Monroe on March 7, 2019.
Second-year freshman
Kyren Whittington continues her tear, putting up a game-high 25 points to go with four rebounds, two assists and one steal in Saturday's 64-47 loss to Little Rock. It marked the second time this season she has topped 20 points and was her 14th double-figure scoring game. Her 13.9 points per game ranks fifth in the Sun Belt Conference. Inside SBC play, she is averaging 17.4 points per game, which is good for fourth in the SBC, trailing UTA's Starr Jacobs (22.0 ppg.), Texas State's Da'Nasia Hood (21.2 ppg.) and Coastal Carolina's Aja Blount (19.3 ppg.).
Sophomore
Linda van Schaik provided a boost off the bench in Saturday's loss to Little Rock. She played nearly 29 minutes, scoring eight points with four rebounds, three assists and a team-best three steals. She scored second-chance buckets on each of her two offensive rebounds.
Fifth-year senior
Kierra Crockett returned to the floor Saturday vs. Little Rock, providing a big energy lift while playing 22 minutes. She scored five points, including a traditional three-point play, with four rebounds, two assists and one block. She had not played since Jan. 15 due to an injury.
Arkansas State is 10-12 overall and 3-6 in the Sun Belt Conference and has lost five consecutive games after Saturday's 68-57 loss at the Ragin' Cajuns. The Red Wolves last picked up a win against Coastal Carolina, 81-60, on Jan. 15.
The Red Wolves are without leading scorer Keya Patton, who tore her ACL in the game at Troy on Jan. 22. Patton was averaging 14.3 points and shooting 41.8% from 3-point range prior to her injury and boosted her average to 19.5 points per game and 52.0% from 3-point range inside SBC play. Trinitee Jackson is the active leading scorer and leads the way in the post at 12.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, which ranks second in the SBC. Jireh Washington is averaging 12.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and is tied for the team lead at 3.1 assists per game. Morgan Wallace is averaging 10.6 points, 8.3 rebounds and is tied with Washington at 3.1 assists per game. Lauryn Pendleton is the final Red Wolf in double figures at 10.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
The Red Wolves have one of the top offenses in the SBC, ranking third in the SBC at 78.8 points per game while ranking second in the league inside of conference play at 78.0 points per game. According to HerHoopStats.com, A-State ranks 13th in NCAA Division I in pace, or possessions per 40 minutes, at 76.7.
