No. 2 Ole Miss Pulls Away from ULM, 10-2

OXFORD, Miss. – No. 2 Ole Miss scored in six of eight innings by taking advantage of 13 walks issued by ULM pitching as the Rebels cruised to a 10-2 win Tuesday night at Oxford-University Stadium and Swayze Field.

Six ULM (1-5) pitchers combined to issue 13 walks while surrendering nine hits. Meanwhile, four Ole Miss (7-0) pitchers combined to strike out 17 Warhawk batters.

Redshirt freshman Henry Shuffler (0-1) worked a scoreless first inning in his collegiate debut, thanks to an outfield assist from freshman William Perkins to throw out Jacob Gonzalez trying to stretch a double into a triple. However, Shuffler issued five walks to open the bottom of the second inning as Ole Miss put two runs on the board by way of a sacrifice fly and a walk to go on top, 2-1. Junior Mikel Howell came out of the bullpen and induced an inning-ending double play.

Ole Miss added to the lead in the third and fourth innings, as TJ McCants' RBI single to center scored Gonzalez in the third, while Reagan Burford's sac fly and Justin Bench's RBI single in the fourth increased the lead to 5-1.

ULM struck back in the top of the fifth as senior Colby Deaville's RBI groundout scored freshman William Perkins to pull within 5-2.

Ole Miss answered in the bottom of the inning as McCants hit a home run that just cleared the right field wall for the 6-2 advantage.

ULM threatened again in the top of the seventh as senior Ryan Cupit and junior Michelle Artzberger drew walks to open the inning, but Jack Dougherty came out of the bullpen to retire the next three hitters and keep the Rebels' lead intact.

Seven walks issued across the seventh and eighth innings helped Ole Miss drive in four more runs for the final margin.
