Warhawks Fall Twice to Nationally-Ranked Opponents Saturday

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The ULM beach volleyball team lost a pair of matches to nationally-ranked opponents on Saturday, falling 5-0 to No. 19 South Carolina and 5-0 to No. 5 LSU at the Gamecock Grand Slam at Wheeler Beach.
 
ULM (4-6) is off until Friday when they open the Fight in the Fort at TCU with New Orleans at 7:30 a.m. and Stephen F. Austin at 1:30 p.m.

Playing in light rain with gusty winds, the tournament host Gamecocks rolled to a 5-0 win, dropping just one set in the match.
 
Sophie Manson and Peyton Gray opened with a Court 5 win over ULM sophomore Abbey Bufkin and junior Abigail Elder, 21-12, 21-14. Hannah Mackenhausen and Kaeli Crews followed on Court 4 with a 21-14, 21-11 win over ULM sophomores Madison Gray and Kaitlyn Nowak. The Gamecocks clinched the match with a win on Court 2 as Jordan Smith and Lauren Wilcock defeated ULM senior Elizabeth Moreland and junior Brooke Hoven, 21-13, 21-8.
 
South Carolina rounded out the match with a wins on Courts 1 and 3. Skylar Allen and Whitley Ballard topped ULM senior Audrey Brooks and junior Julia Blazek, 21-12, 21-19, on Court 1, while ULM picked up its only set win on Court 3, but Abby Carroll and Jillian Gleason rebounded to beat seniors Kayla Gallant and Rylin Adams, 17-21, 21-11, 15-10.
 
In an exhibition match, Kristen Schenck and Lizzie Thompson beat ULM freshmen Delaney Evans and Tamsie Black, 21-18, 25-23.

Ellie Shank and Sierra Caffo started it off for LSU with a win over Gray and Nowak on Court 4, 21-9, 21-13. Allison Coens and Lara Boos followed on Court 5 with a victory over Bufkin and Elder, 21-12, 21-14. The Tigers won the match on Court 3, as Holly Carlton and Reilly Allred beat Gallant and Adams, 21-18, 21-15. Parker Bracken and Kylie Deberg won on Court 2 against Moreland and Hoven, 21-10, 21-15. LSU completed the sweep on Court 1 as Ashlyn Rasnick-Pope and Bella Bauman topped Brooks and Blazek, 21-10, 21-17.
 
In an exhibition match, Melia Lindner and Elizabeth Chambers beat ULM sophomore Avery Reynolds and junior Madeline Williams, 21-11, 21-11.
