MONROE, La. – The ULM beach volleyball team plays its first home tournament of the season Friday and Saturday, entertaining Stephen F. Austin, Houston Baptist and Nicholls for the ULM Bayou Bash.
The Warhawks will face SFA at 3 p.m. Friday, HBU at 11 a.m. Saturday and Nicholls at 3 p.m. Saturday at the ULM Beach Volleyball Courts.
ULM is coming off a 2-2 weekend at the Houston Baptist Tournament to open the season, beating New Orleans, 3-2, and Southeastern, 4-1, while dropping matches to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (4-1) and HBU (4-1).
The ULM No. 1 pair of senior
Audrey Brooks and junior
Julia Blazek went 2-2 on opening weekend. The duo won both matches on Saturday, beating SLU's Hannah Barosh and Hannah Brewer, 2-0, and HBU's Brennan Miller and Maddie Butters, 2-0.
At No. 2, seniors
Kayla Gallant and
Rylin Adams went 1-3, with their only win coming over UNO's Maxine Walsh and Hannah Volpi, 2-1.
The No. 3 pair of junior
Abigail Elder and sophomore
Kaitlyn Nowak was 1-3, picking up a win over SLU's Michelle Mirarchi and Avery Carroll, 2-1, on Saturday.
Senior
Elizabeth Moreland and junior
Brooke Hoven had the best opening weekend, going 3-1 as the No. 4 pair. The duo won their first three matches, beating A&M-Corpus Christi's Kiley Lewis and Ashlyn Power, 2-1, UNO's Liz Gialanella and Taylore Louveire, 2-0, and SLU's Linsey Sackett and Eryn Wilks, 2-0.
At No. 5, sophomore
Abbey Bufkin and freshman
Tamsie Black split the weekend at HBU. They beat UNO's Hailey Melerine and Tara Goolsby, 2-1, and SLU's Mabry Ward and Jackie McGee, 2-1.
ULM won two of three matchups involving extra pairs, as sophomore
Avery Reynolds and freshman Delany Evans beat UNO's Serena Baumaart and Ivana Carvallo, 2-0, and junior
Madeline Williams and sophomore
Madison Gray topped SLU's Bailey Lyons and Ariana Hebert, 2-0.
