ULM Softball’s Kackley Throws Two-hit Complete-Game Shutout Wednesday

Top two hitters in order, Bacon and Page, Reach Base a Combined Five Times

MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team won 4-0 Wednesday night at the ULM Softball Complex behind a standout performance from freshman pitcher Kinsey Kackley. Kackley allowed only two hits in her seven-inning complete-game win and struck out five. Sophomore Andie Edwards hit the game-winning home run in the second inning.

"I can't say enough about the great job Kinsey did in the circle because any time you throw a seven-inning shutout to a team like that, that's a big deal," said ULM head coach Molly Fichtner. "To be a freshman and go in there and allow only two hits, that's elite status, that was awesome."

In addition to Kackley's efforts in the circle, Fichtner altered the batting order for Wednesday's game, which saw Lourdes Bacon and Kennedy Page reach base five times in their six combined appearances at the plate and scored a run each. Bacon went 2-for-2 with a walk and Page went two-for-three.

"We changed a few things in our lineup and our one-two punch was awesome," Fichtner said. "When your first two get on base five out of six times, that's pretty good offensively. There were situations where we could have busted it wide open with more scores."

Edwards led off the second inning with her second home run of the season to give ULM a 1-0 advantage. The Warhawks would score three runs in the bottom of the third for the 4-0 final margin. Bacon singled to left, and Kennedy Page, who batted second in the order Wednesday, doubled to left and moved Bacon over to third base. Kennedy Johnson reached first on a fielder's choice, which allowed Bacon to come home and give Johnson an RBI.

With just one out and a 2-0 lead, Johnson stole second and Madelyn Fletcher drew a walk to put Warhawks on first and second. Jacelyn Buck's two-RBI single plated Johnson and Page for the 4-0 ULM lead.

The Warhawks return to Sun Belt Conference action this weekend vs. App State. ULM plays host to the Mountaineers Friday, March 25 at 6 p.m. CT with Saturday's game slated for 1 p.m. CT. First pitch for Sunday's series finale is at noon CT.
