MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team put on their rally caps and won 2-1 over App State in the final game of the Sun Belt series Sunday at the ULM Softball Complex.
Jacelyn Buck and
Kennedy Page each went 2-for-3 with Buck hitting a two-out single to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth and position the winning run on third base.
Â
"Our defense and our pitching most definitely won the game today," said ULM head coach
Molly Fichtner. "We are playing lights-out defense right now, which is really good. The pitchers eliminated a ton of walks. Vic (
Victoria Abrams) gave us a good start in the circle, and Rocky (
Adrianna Chavarria) continued doing an incredible job with their offense, giving up only one run. And we had a key hit by
Jacelyn Buck for the RBI."
Â
App State (17-12, 5-4) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning by stringing together two hits, a fielder's choice, stolen base and a walk to load the bases. First baseman McKenzie McCullen singled up the middle to plate the Mountaineers' only run.
Â
Starting pitcher
Victoria Abrams scattered five hits in the first three innings and relief pitcher
Adrianna Chavarria picked up the win (3-4). Chavarria retired the Mountaineers three up and three down in her four innings of work.
Â
The Warhawks had two hits in each of the first three innings, but did not scratch any runs across. Page singled in the fifth and stole second and
Gabby Davila took the empty base. Buck hit a two-out single to right, bringing Page home for the tying run and moving Davila to third. Buck stole second and a wild pitch brought Davila home.
Â
"
Jacelyn Buck had the key hit for us today that scored the RBI and she has been one of our more consistent hitters, especially with two outs, very clutch," Fichtner said.

The ULM softball team heads to McNeese for a non-conference game Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT at Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond. Live stats are available on the schedule page at
