Warhawks Split Duals on Final Day of Bayou Bash

MONROE, La. – The ULM beach volleyball team split its two duals on the second day of the Bayou Bash, falling to Houston Baptist, 4-1, before bouncing back with a sweep of Nicholls, 5-0.
 
ULM (3-4) continues its season next week at the Gamecock Grand Slam at South Carolina.

In a rematch from last week, HBU picked up another 4-1 win over the Warhawks Saturday afternoon. The Huskies opened with a 1-0 lead after Lauren Huggins and Alison Stanfill defeated seniors Kayla Gallant and Rylin Adams in the matchup of No. 2 pairs, 2-0 (21-18, 21-18). The lead moved to 2-0 at the No. 5 court, as Kylann Griffith and Abbey Reinard earned a 2-1 win over ULM sophomore Kaitlyn Nowak and Madison Gray, 21-18, 18-21, 15-10. HBU sealed the match after Linsey Harris and Kristen Kleymeyer defeated senior Elizabeth Moreland and junior Brooke Hoven on the No. 3 court, 2-0 (21-10, 21-13).
 
ULM's only win came at the No. 1 pairs, as senior Audrey Brooks and junior Julia Blazek defeated HBU's Maddie Butters and Brennan Miller, 2-0 (21-18, 21-15). HBU bounced back with a win on court No. 4, as Shelby O'Neal and Dani Okeke rallied from the 1-0 deficit to win 2-1 (20-22, 21-19, 15-9) over junior Abigail Elder and sophomore Abbey Bufkin.
 
In an extra pair match, HBU's Mary Alper and Gabi Axelrod swept ULM freshmen Delaney Evans and Tamsie Black, 2-0 (21-16, 21-17).

ULM picked up its only win of the weekend, 5-0, with a sweep of Nicholls to close Bayou Bash Saturday afternoon. The Warhawks won all 14 sets contested with the Colonels.
 
Nowak and Gray started off with a win at No. 5, beating Jamya Holmes and Yani Johnson, 2-0 (21-15, 21-15). Brooks and Blazek rolled at No. 1 with a 2-0 win over Kylie Lockhard and Devon Bright, 21-14, 21-7. Moreland and Hoven cruised at No. 3 against Kennedi Steele and Aspen Steele, 2-0 (21-14, 21-9). Elder and Bufkin swept Katie Jones and Kate Hoerdemann, 2-0 (21-12, 21-14). Gallant and Adams capped the clean sweep of the Colonels with a 2-0 win over Emily Gauthreaux and Kadie Becnel, 21-12, 22-20.
 
In an extra pair match, ULM junior Madeline Williams and sophomore Avery Reynolds defeated Nicholls' Kelsey Bradshaw and Caitlin Green, 2-0 (21-13, 21-8).
