Two Big Innings Send UNO to Sweep of ULM, 10-5

MONROE, La. – New Orleans scored five runs, all with two outs, in the fourth inning to take the lead and pulled away for a 10-5 win over ULM, completing the series sweep Sunday afternoon at Warhawk Field.

Trailing ULM (1-9) 2-1 with the bases empty and two outs, UNO (8-2) started its huge fourth-inning rally with Tyler Bischke's groundball single through the middle of the infield. Jorge Tejeda reached on an error and Jeissy De La Cruz was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kasten Furr followed with a 2-RBI single to put the Privateers on top, 3-2. Amani Larry added an RBI single and Pearce Howard stroked an RBI double to increase the lead to 5-2. A bases-loaded walk to Miguel Useche capped the rally, putting UNO up 6-2.

The Warhawks pushed back in the fifth inning. Senior Mason Holt led off with a walk and senior Ryan Cupit followed with a double off the batter's eye in center field. Senior Grant Schulz hit a sacrifice fly to score Holt and Cupit came home on a wild pitch to cut the gap to 6-4.

UNO rebuilt and extended its lead thanks to Warhawk mistakes in the seventh. Issac Williams' RBI single plated Anthony Herron Jr. Williams scored on a passed ball and Bischke scored on an error as the Privateers capped a 3-run inning to take a 9-4 lead.

ULM picked up a run in the seventh inning when sophomore Michael Cervantes drove in fellow sophomore Landon Cato with an RBI single to pull within four, 9-5.

The Warhawks had a chance to draw closer in the eighth inning. ULM loaded the bases with one out, but Cato grounded into an inning-ending double play to retire the side.

UNO tacked on another insurance run in the top of the ninth as Herron Jr. picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice, scoring Larry.

The Privateers took a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning when Herron's RBI single scored Furr. ULM answered in the bottom of the first as Cupit's RBI single brought in Holt. The Warhawks took the lead in the second on sophomore Carson Jones' RBI single, which scored senior Colby Deaville for the 2-1 advantage.
