LAFAYETTE, La. – The Ragin' Cajuns scored nine runs over the second and third innings to break the game open and rolled to a 14-2 win over ULM Thursday night in the first game of a three game Sun Belt Conference series at M.L. Tigue Moore Field at Russo Park.
After taking the lead with three runs in the second inning on the strength of a solo home run by Connor Kimple and a 2-RBI double by Tyler Robertson, the Cajuns used five hits and three ULM errors in the six-run third to push the lead out to 10-2. Julian Brock highlighted the frame with a 3-run home run.
Mason Holt and
Matthew Lee had two hits each for ULM while
Grant Schulz had two RBIs on two sacrifice flies. Robertson had four hits and four RBIs to lead the Cajuns.
Brandon Talley earned the win on the mound for the Ragin' Cajuns, allowing two runs on seven hits with one walk and eight strikeouts in six innings.
Cam Barlow suffered the loss for ULM, giving up nine runs, eight earned, on nine hits with three strikeouts and no walks in 2 1/3 innings.
The series continues at 6 p.m. Friday.
