BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The ULM beach volleyball team split matches on the first day of the Blazer Beach Bash, defeating Mercer, 4-1, before falling to UAB, 3-2, at the UAB Beach Volleyball Courts.
The duos of
Audrey Brooks and
Kayla Gallant as well as
Rylin Adams and
Julia Blazek each won two matches on the day.
In Brooks' and Gallant's win over UAB's over Rachel Tam and Adriana Pereira, Gallant broke the school record for career wins by notching her 72nd win. The previous record of 71 was set by
Catherine Griffith from 2016-19.
ULM is scheduled to wrap up the Blazer Beach Bash at 9 a.m. Saturday against North Alabama.
ULM 4, Mercer 1
ULM controlled most of the dual, cruising to a 4-1 win over Mercer to open the day on Friday.
On court one,
Audrey Brooks and
Kayla Gallant swept Olivia Boeve and Lexi Polychrones, 21-13, 21-13.
Julia Blazek and
Rylin Adams also emerged victorious on court two, defeating Sydney Benson and Nicole O'Mara, 21-10, 21-15.
Mercer picked up its only win on court three as Jordan Paddock and Reese Hood won in two sets over
Brooke Hoven and
Elizabeth Moreland, 21-19, 21-14.
The Warhawks picked up wins on courts four and five.
Kaitlyn Nowak and
Avery Reynolds won the only three-set match, defeating Ellie Miller and Alyssa Scoggins, 21-16, 18-21, 15-12.
Abbey Bufkin and
Tamsie Black won on court five over Jordan Morris and Kathryn Corbett, 21-12, 21-17.

UAB 3, ULM 2
UAB picked up wins in two of three three-set matches and earned a 3-2 win over ULM in the second match of the day on Friday.
On court one, Brooks and Gallant collected their second win of the day, defeating Rachel Tam and Adriana Pereira, 16-21, 21-14, 15-12. Blazek and Adams were the only other Warhawk pair to win in the second dual, defeating Dylynn Otte and Jenna Gathright, 21-15, 22-20.
UAB picked up its only sweep on court three as Arden Copping and Mikayla Law-Heese defeated Hoven and Moreland, 21-17, 21-15. The Blazers won in three sets on court four as Emma Andraka and Naomi Ortiz defeated Nowak and Reynolds, 19-21, 21-18, 15-12. UAB sealed the match with a court five win as Ella Alexander and Jessica Ennis knocked off Bufkin and Black, 21-13, 16-21, 15-7.
