STARKVILLE, Miss. – The ULM softball team locked up Mississippi State in a 1-1 tie through three innings, but a home run in the bottom of the seventh gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 victory. One of the nation's best hitters, Mia Davidson, hit her 18th home run of the year for Mississippi State's walk-off win.
Â
"It was a lot of fun and there was a lot of good that came out of that game," said ULM head coach
Molly Fichtner. "We are obviously right there. The only thing we can improve on to beat a team like that, we have to adjust offensively a little bit more. I would like to see us have a little bit more of a sense of urgency at the plate and not let a pitcher beat us in the same spot two times."
Â
The Warhawks responded to the Bulldogs' early 1-0 lead with a run in the fourth inning. With two outs,
Lourdes Bacon singled up to center field. She swiped second with an acrobatic move.
Gabby Davila singled up the left-field line and drove in her 20th run of the season in bringing Bacon across to tie the game.
Â
In the second inning, Mississippi State's Madisyn Kennedy singled to plate the Bulldogs' first run after Matalasi Faapito's triple put her in scoring position.
Â
Bacon finished the night with two of the Warhawks' hits and Davila finished the game with a hit and an RBI.
Â
Victoria Abrams (7-4) pitched a magnificent game with
Madison Blount behind the plate. Abrams scattered six hits in seven innings and got out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth inning without giving up a run.
Â
Victoria Abrams, you can't say enough about her, and
Madison Blount behind the plate, they did a really good job," Fichtner said. "Even when they had the bases loaded, for her to get out of it the way she did, it was incredible."

ULM begins a five-game homestand with a Sun Belt Conference series vs. South Alabama Friday-Sunday, April 22-24. The link for live stats will be available on the softball schedule page at
