ULM Basketball Signs Diedhiou to Grant-in-Aid

Men's Basketball
MONROE, La. – AD Diedhiou, a 6-foot-10, 240-pound forward who played at UAB in 2021-22, has signed a grant-in-aid to attend ULM and compete in basketball in 2022-23, according to an announcement made by Warhawk head coach Keith Richard on Wednesday, April 27.

Diedhiou (pronounced DEE-juu; juu rhymes with who) who has two years of eligibility remaining, appeared in seven games last season as UAB won the Conference USA Tournament Championship and advanced to play fifth-seeded Houston in the NCAA Tournament. It marked the Blazers' first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2015. He missed the second half of the season with a knee injury. Diedhiou contributed two points, four rebounds (two offensive boards), an assist and steal in nine minutes against Rhodes College.

A native of Dakar, Senegal, Diedhiou played in 53 games over two seasons at Odessa College, including 15 starting assignments.

"AD provides a big, physical interior presence that was missing on last year's roster," Richard said. "He earned all-conference honors in junior college because he made an impact on both ends of the floor. AD is a solid low-post scorer and consistent rebounder, who also can protect the rim as a shot blocker."

As a sophomore, he earned first-team All-Western Junior College Athletic Conference honors after averaging 6.4 points and a team-leading 4.7 rebounds per game in 2020-21 while helping the Wranglers to a 20-3 overall record, WJCAC Championship and No. 3 NJCAA final regular-season ranking. Diedhiou made 64 percent (56-of-88) of his field-goal attempts and 70 percent (35-of-50) from the free-throw line. He scored double figures in six games and added a team-best 24 blocked shots. Diedhiou hit 6-of-7 shots from the floor and finished with 13 points and eight rebounds against Western Texas. He recorded a double-double at New Mexico Military Institute with 11 points to go along with 10 boards. Diedhiou went a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and matched his season high with 13 points against Frank Phillips. He collected a season/career-best four blocks against Loyalty College Prep.

Diedhiou saw action in 30 games, including 13 starts, as a freshman in 2019-20 and averaged 5.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. He shot 61 percent (72-of-118) from the field, 51 percent (24-of-47) from the free-throw line and blocked 37 shots. Diedhiou scored in double figures twice, including a career-high 16 points against Midland (7-of-11 FG shooting). He connected on all six of his field-goal attempts at New Mexico Junior College for 12 points. Diedhiou collected double-digit rebounds five times, including 12 each against Northwest Florida State, at Clarendon and at Western Texas. He tallied a career-best six blocks against Angelina.

Diedhiou participated in the 2019 All-Parisian Games in Paris.

He becomes the third member of ULM's 2022 recruiting class, joining 6-5 guard Jalen Bolden, from Zachary (Louisiana) High School, and 6-0 guard Tyreke Locure, another transfer from UAB.
