ATLANTA – The ULM softball team (26-22, 9-13) started Friday's series opener at Georgia State with three hits in the first inning, but could not convert hits to runs in a 3-0 loss.
Alexis Chavez had two of the Warhawks' four hits to start the team's final Sun Belt Conference road series.
Â
"I was not happy with our performance and we have to move forward and get better," said ULM head coach
Molly Fichtner. "We have to hit. We have to get better offensively. We started out with three runs in the first inning and brought only 19 people up to bat in five innings; that's five one-two-three innings with one inning with four up to bat."
Â
ULM had three of its four hits in the first inning with the final hit coming in the third when Chavez singled up the middle. The Warhawks made contact, but finished the game without another baserunner.
Alexis Chavez had two of ULM's four hits with
Lourdes Bacon and
Jacelyn Buck each adding one.
Â
Georgia State (17-28, 7-12) scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the second when Jackie Gonzalez hit a home run to bring in two Panther baserunners after they reached base on a single and a walk. Emily Buck (7-5) picked up the win for Georgia State, allowing four hits and striking out three.
Kinsey Kackley (8-8) took the loss for ULM despite only giving up only three hits in six innings with three strikeouts.
