ATLANTA – The ULM softball team (25-23, 9-14) tied Saturday's game at Georgia State in the top of the sixth, but the Panthers answered with a run to take the 3-2 win. First baseman
Kennedy Johnson went 2-for-3 and scored two runs, including the tying run, and had multiple hits in a game for the 12th time this season.
Â
"During the past two games, there hasn't been a time when we have had the lead, so we're fighting back all the time," said ULM head coach
Molly Fichtner. "Our offense isn't doing well, so we are scratching and clawing for every single run. We made some silly mistakes and had some walks we shouldn't have. I thought Rocky (
Adrianna Chavarria) did a really good job coming in and holding them with the bases loaded. Now, we just need to turn the page, move on and get ready for tomorrow's game."
Â
Daisy Hess drove in the first Georgia State (18-28, 8-12) run with her single after Bailee Richardson and Sophie Mooney had back-to-back singles to start the second. Mooney advanced to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a wild pitch for the 2-0 Panther lead.
Â
ULM cut the deficit to one run in the fourth as Johnson led off with a single and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by
Korie Kreps.
Andie Edwards' single plated Johnson for first Warhawk run. Buck's two-out single brought Johnson home for the tying run after Johnson singled to left to get on base.
Â
In the sixth, with the bases loaded,
Adrianna Chavarria, who came on in relief, got out of the inning giving up only one run. A single bounced past the circle to allow the winning run to score. The loss went to ULM's
Victoria Abrams (7-7) with two earned runs allowed and four walks. Abrams struck out two. Freshman Emily Hodnett (4-4) earned the win and Mooney the save for the Panthers.
