MONROE, La. – The ULM beach volleyball team is set to play in the Southern Miss Beach Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Southern Miss Beach Volleyball Courts in Hattiesburg, Miss.
ULM will face Southern Miss at 8:30 a.m. Friday followed that afternoon by Tulane at 2:30. The Warhawks wrap up the weekend on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. against Spring Hill and at 2:30 against New Orleans.
The Warhawks won three of four matches last week at the ULM Beach Invitational, picking up a 5-0 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor, a 4-1 win over Central Arkansas and a 4-1 win over Southeastern. ULM lost to New Orleans, 3-2.
Kayla Gallant and
Rylin Adams went 4-0 on senior weekend, earning three wins on court four and one on court three. The pair improved to 9-12 on the season together, including their longest winning streak at four matches. They have won four times on court two, twice on court three and three times on court four.
Abbey Bufkin and
Abigail Elder went 4-0 on court five on the weekend. It marks the longest winning streak for the duo this season, who are now 7-9 together. The duo has played all 15 of their 16 matches together on court five.
Brooke Hoven and
Elizabeth Moreland went 3-1 in the ULM Beach Invite, earning wins over UMHB, UCA and SLU. They are 11-12 together this season and have won five of their last six matches. They earned their first two wins this season on court two with victories over UCA and SLU. They have picked up five wins on court four and four wins on court three.
Audrey Brooks and
Julia Blazek were 2-2 at home last week, earning wins over UMHB and SLU. They have played all 23 of their matches on court one. The pair are 9-14 on the season and have won eight of their nine matches in two sets.
Kaitlyn Nowak and
Avery Reynolds also were 2-2 last weekend, picking up wins over UMHB and UCA. It was only the second tournament in which Nowak and Reynolds have played together, going 2-4 so far. The duo won on court two against UMHB and court three, in three sets, against UCA.
Southern Miss is 7-18 overall on the season. The Golden Eagles won four of five matches at their first home event last weekend, defeating Nicholls (5-0), Chattanooga (3-2), Huntingdon (5-0) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (5-0). Their only loss came to Spring Hill (3-2). USM defeated TAMUK, Houston Baptist and Nicholls for their other wins on the season. It is the first meeting between ULM and USM this season. Both are members of Conference USA for beach volleyball.
Tulane is 16-7 overall. The Green Wave won all four matches at last week's Skyhawk Beach Invitational at UT Martin, sweeping Ottawa (Ariz.), Missouri State and Liberty, while also defeating UTM, 4-1. The Green Wave won all five matches at their home tournament on March 11 and 12, defeating UAB, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, HBU, Nicholls and UNO. It is the first meeting between ULM and Tulane this season.
Spring Hill is 17-5 on the season. The Badgers have won their last eight matches coming into the USM Beach Invitational, including five victories at last week's first USM Beach Invitational. SHC swept Nicholls and Huntingdon, topped Chattanooga, 4-1, and won 3-2 over both TAMUK and USM. They also won the final three matches at the UNO Invitational on March 24-25, defeating SLU (3-2), UNO (3-2) and Nicholls (4-1). It is the first meeting between ULM and SHC this year.
UNO is 14-10 after winning all four matches at last week's ULM Beach Invitational. In addition to defeating ULM, 3-2, the Privateers also defeated Southeastern and Central Arkansas in 3-2 decisions. UNO swept UMHB, 5-0. It is the fourth meeting this season between ULM and UNO, with the Privateers holding a 2-1 advantage. UNO defeated ULM, 3-2, on March 18 at the Fight in the Fort, while the Warhawks won, 3-2, at the HBU Tournament on opening weekend.
