ULM Softball Welcomes Texas State for Three-Game Sun Belt Series

Softball
MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team will play its first home game in 12 days with a three-game Sun Belt Conference series Friday-Sunday, April 8-10 with Friday's first pitch set for 6 p.m. CT at the ULM Softball Complex. The Warhawks (18-15, 4-8) played five-straight games on the road over the last two weeks and are looking to halt a three-game skid in conference competition. Five of the Warhawks' last six league games have been decided by a one-run margin.

Beginning with Friday's game vs. Texas State, the Warhawks will play eight home games in April, equal to the number of true home games they have played so far this entire season.

"We have a great opportunity with playing Texas State this weekend," said ULM softball head coach Molly Fichtner. "We are going to be tested and I think that's exactly what this team needs. We have done a lot of productive things over the last couple of days."

Texas State (19-15, 6-6), voted No. 2 in the Sun Belt coaches' preseason poll, plays at Sam Houston State Thursday evening before coming to Monroe for the weekend. The Bobcats won the final game of the three-game series vs. the Ragin' Cajuns last weekend and swept Coastal Carolina the previous weekend.

Through games of Wed., April 6, Bobcats' senior catcher Cat Crenek leads the Sun Belt in batting average at .403. In the circle, right-handed pitcher Jessica Mullins is the league leader, and sixth nationally in innings pitched with 132.0. Mullins has 152 strikeouts, second in the Sun Belt for a No. 20 national ranking. Her 13 victories are also second in the Sun Belt and place her 27th in the country.

Warhawk centerfielder Lourdes Bacon stands fifth on the Sun Belt list for on-base percentage at .442. With ULM's top batting average (.357), hits total (35), runs scored (22) and stolen bases total (9), she holds multiple slots on the league's Top-10 charts.

Pitcher Kinsey Kackley holds the No. 6 spot on the Sun Belt Top-10 lists for ERA (2.69) and opponent batting average (.229). Adrianna Chavarria, who pitched 8.1 innings in relief over the last four games, ranks fourth in games pitched in relief (12) and is fifth in the Sun Belt and 79th nationally with 4.90 hits allowed per seven innings. She struck out three batters in her 1.2 innings pitched Tuesday at Louisiana Tech.

Nick White, the "Voice of the Warhawks," will call the action for the ESPN+  broadcast Friday night. The link for live stats for all weekend games and the ESPN+ stream for the series opener Friday are available on the softball schedule page at ULMWarhawks.com.
