HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The ULM beach volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on the opening day of the Southern Miss Beach Invitational, falling to Southern Miss, 3-2, and Tulane, 5-0.
The Warhawks (8-17 overall) conclude the USM Beach Invite on Saturday, meeting Spring Hill at 10:30 a.m. and New Orleans at 2:30 p.m.

The Warhawks dropped the opening match of the weekend to the host Golden Eagles, 3-2, Friday morning.
ULM opened with a win on court four as
Kaitlyn Nowak and
Avery Reynolds rolled to a two-set win over Hallie Phelan and Reagan Sandlin, 21-17, 21-11. USM tied the match up on court five when Valeria Siakidou and Kai Norman won over
Abigail Elder and
Abbey Bufkin in three sets, 24-26, 21-19, 15-9.
The Golden Eagles took the lead on court one when Breleigh Favre and Aleksandra Chudzik topped
Audrey Brooks and
Julia Blazek in two sets, 21-15, 21-16. ULM tied it up on court three as
Kayla Gallant and
Rylin Adams won in two sets over Taylor Pierce and Olivia Hepworth, 22-20, 21-16.
USM took the dual on the decisive fifth match, as Vanessa Hurnikova and Kellie Garraway won over
Elizabeth Moreland and
Brooke Hoven on court two, 21-16, 21-15.
In an extra pair match, ULM's
Delaney Evans and
Madison Gray defeated Carmen Sanchez and Madison Cassidy, 21-16, 21-15.

Tulane picked up two sweeps and three wins in three sets to earn a 5-0 sweep over ULM Friday afternoon at the Southern Miss Beach Volleyball Courts.
Josie Cole and Samantha Green swept Nowak and Reynolds on court four, 21-18, 21-16. Haley Gibson and Savka Popovic followed with a three-set win on court five over Evans and
Tamsie Black, 15-21, 21-18, 15-6. The Green Wave clinched the match on court one where Maddie Speicher and Kendall Peters swept Brooks and Blazek, 21-16, 26-24.
Tulane's Lara Torruella and Ashton Mares pushed the lead to 4-0 on court three with a win over Moreland and Hoven, 21-11, 14-21, 15-12. The Green Wave finished the sweep on court two, as Sara Hall and Samantha Mehlman defeated Gallant and Adams, 21-16, 14-21, 16-14.
In an extra pair match, Izzy Mitchell and Ainsley Patrick of Tulane won in three sets over
Madeline Williams and Gray, 21-18, 18-21, 15-11.
