Warhawks Split on Final Day of Southern Miss Beach Invite

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The ULM beach volleyball team split its matches on Saturday at the Southern Miss Beach Invitational to salvage a match from the weekend at the Southern Miss Beach Volleyball Courts.
 
ULM dropped its first game of the day to Spring Hill, 3-2, before rebounding for a win over New Orleans, 3-2.
 
The Warhawks close the regular season next week at the Blazer Beach Bash at UAB, facing Mercer at 12 p.m. Friday, UAB at 11 a.m. Saturday and North Alabama at 1 p.m. Saturday.
 
Spring Hill 3, ULM 2
 
Spring Hill claimed the first three matches of the dual before ULM rallied to salvage the final two matches in a 3-2 loss Saturday morning.
 
The Badgers claimed the first point on court five as Briley Jane Becker and Emily Weinzapfel defeated Abigail Elder and Abbey Bufkin, 21-15, 21-14. SHC went up 2-0 on court four as Brooke Borgmeyer and Linnea Beger topped Kaitlyn Nowak and Avery Reynolds, 21-16, 18-21, 15-13. They clinched the dual with a win on court three, as Leanne Sorrel and Kyla Shappell swept Elizabeth Moreland and Brooke Hoven, 21-14, 21-14.
 
ULM built some momentum for the second match of the day, as Rylin Adams and Julia Blazek won on court two over Mikayla Boyer and Natalie Bonner, 20-22, 21-14, 15-11. On court one, Audrey Brooks and Kayla Gallant defeated Kassandra Fairly and Jessica Fairly, 18-21, 23-21, 15-12.
 
In an extra pair match, Madison Gray and Tamsie Black of ULM defeated SHC's Courtney Faulkner and Jordan Atchison, 18-21, 21-19, 15-10.

ULM took the fourth meeting between the Warhawks and Privateers, 3-2, Saturday afternoon, leaving the season series tied at 2-2.
 
Elder and Bufkin cruised to a sweep on court five to put ULM up 1-0, defeating Valerie Vujnovich and Taylore Louviere, 21-16, 21-11. The lead moved to 2-0 on court four as Nowak and Reynolds defeated Liz Gialanella and Ivana Peixe, 21-14, 21-18. The Warhawks clinched the match on court three as Moreland and Hoven topped Hannah Volpi and Maxine Walsh, 21-17, 21-15.
 
UNO took the final two matches of the day. Trinity Jackson and Alexa Spartz defeated Adams and Blazek on court two, 21-19, 23-21. On court one, Lucie Pokorna and Ania Esarte defeated Brooks and Gallant, 16-21, 21-17, 15-10.
 
In an extra pair match, Madeline Williams and Delaney Evans played into a third set but the match was unfinished against Tara Goolsby and Serena Baumgart. Williams and Evans won the first set, 21-19, and Goolsby and Baumgart won the second, 21-15.
