LITTLE ROCK – Noah Dickerson's RBI double off the right field wall scored Jorden Hussein from second base as Little Rock walked off with a 7-6 win over ULM Sunday afternoon at Gary Hogan Field to sweep the series.
ULM (15-26-1 overall, 6-14-1 Sun Belt Conference) trailed 2-0 after the third inning and kept battling back, only to have Little Rock answer nearly every punch with another of their own.
Little Rock (20-19, 9-11) took the initial lead in the third as Hussein hit an RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch for the 2-0 advantage.
ULM was held without a hit for the first four innings, but had six base runners thanks to four walks, a hit batter and an error. However, ULM could not move the runners around to get on the board.
The Warhawks broke through in the fifth inning as
Grant Schulz grounded into a fielder's choice with runners on first and third. The throw came home, but was high and wide, allowing
Trace Henry to slide by to cut the deficit in half, 2-1.
ULM tied the game in the seventh inning. With two outs, pinch hitter
Chase DeJean singled on the first pitch from Little Rock reliever Sawyer Smallwood, driving in
Ryan Cupit to knot the game at 2.
However, the Trojans answered right back in the bottom half of the inning. Hussein hit a sacrifice fly to score Soto, and a fielding error with two outs allowed Jake Wright to score to push the lead back to two, 4-2.
The Warhawks threw their next punch in the top of the eighth. With two outs and
Matthew Lee on first base, Cupit drew his third walk of the game.
Mason Holt hit an infield single, and a throwing error allowed Lee to round third and score, getting within a run, 4-3. Schulz followed with a single back through the middle as Cupit scored. On the throw in to second base, Holt kept running, rounding third and beating the throw home to give ULM a 5-4 lead.
Little Rock responded again in the bottom half. Canyon McWilliams and Miguel Soto hit back-to-back home runs, putting the Trojans back up, 6-5.
ULM kept fighting in the top of the ninth. DeJean led off with double down the left field line. With one out,
Carson Jones hit a double to left, scoring pinch-runner
Cole Stromboe to tie the game at 6.
Little Rock had another answer in the bottom of the ninth. Hussein picked up his third hit of the game to lead off the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Eldrige Figueroa. After a walk to Tyler Williams, Dickerson doubled off the right field wall to drive in Hussein, as the Trojans celebrated the 7-6 walk-off win.
Schulz and Jones had two hits each for ULM. Cupit and
Colby Deaville each walked three times. Soto and Hussein each had three hits for Little Rock, as Hussein had two RBIs and scored twice.
Hoss Brewer (3-2), who started Saturday's game for Little Rock, returned out of the bullpen on Sunday and threw the final 1 1/3 innings for the win, allowing a run on two hits with a walk and one strikeout.
Lucas Wepf (1-5) took the loss, allowing a run on one hit with one walk and one strikeout in 2/3 of an inning.
Tylor Jans made his second straight Sunday start for ULM, allowing two runs on five hits with two strikeouts and no walks in 4 1/3 innings.
