NATCHITOCHES, La. – Northwestern State scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and held off a couple of challenges by ULM for a 10-5 win Tuesday night at Brown-Stroud Field, sending the Warhawks to their eighth consecutive loss.
The Demons (24-24 overall) scored four runs in the first inning on three hits and three walks, as Jeffrey Elkins and Bo Willis picked up an RBI each and Larson Fontenot had two RBIs on a single to center field.
ULM (15-31-1 overall) scratched single runs in the second, third and fourth innings, with an RBI double by
Michelle Artzberger, a solo home run by
Grant Schulz and an RBI single by
Chris Noble to get back within 4-3.
The Warhawks had a chance to tie the game in the top of the fifth after
Mason Holt led off the inning with a double, but he was stranded at third base.
NSU answered back in the bottom of the fifth. An error on a potential double play ball early in the inning led to a three-run frame as Elkins earned his second RBI on a fielder's choice, Gray Rowlett hit a sacrifice fly and Fontenot hit an RBI single to go back up by four, 7-3.

Colby Deaville to cut the gap to 7-4.
The Demons extended the lead again in the bottom of the seventh as Willis hit an RBI double and Fontenot hit a two-run home run to left center to push the lead to 10-4.
ULM had one last gasp in the ninth, loading the bases with two outs before
Austin Beech hit an RBI single. However, a strikeout brought an end to the threat and game, 10-5.
Fontenot was 3-for-3 with five RBIs for NSU, while Willis added two hits and two RBIs. Deaville and Beech led ULM with two hits each.
Ethan Francis (1-1) earned the win for the Demons, allowing two runs on four hits with one strikeout and no walks in three innings.
Cole Brady (0-1) suffered the loss in his first career start, giving up four runs on two hits with no strikeouts and three walks in 1/3 of an inning.
The Warhawks entertain Jackson State at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Warhawk Field in the final midweek contest of the season.
