LAFAYETTE, La. – Hannah Blood claimed second place in the women's hammer throw and
Jakob Fudge was third in the men's hammer throw, leading their respective squads to fifth place in the team standings through the first day of the Sun Belt Conference Track and Field Championship Thursday at the Ragin' Cajun Soccer/Track & Field Stadium.
Blood claimed silver in the hammer throw with a toss of 197-1, unleashing her best throw on her sixth and final attempt. Teammate
Brianna Sam was seventh with a heave of 175-10, coming on her third attempt. The duo accounted for all 10 team points for the Warhawk women on Thursday, good for a tie for fifth place. Arkansas State leads the women's team standings at 55 points.

For the men, Fudge was third in the hammer throw at 191-8, coming on his first attempt of the day.
The Warhawk men also picked up points from
Bailey Couch, who was sixth in the javelin at 199-0. ULM is tied for fifth with 10 points through the first day. South Alabama leads the men's team standings with 49 points.
A handful of Warhawks qualified for the finals in their track events.
For the women,
Jasmine Williams qualified seventh in the 400-meter hurdles in a personal-best time of 1:00.22.
Eliana Battle qualified for the finals in the 1500 meters, placing 11th in preliminaries at 4:47.17, also a personal best.
On the men's side,
Jhavonte Perry qualified third in the 200 in a personal-best time of 21.15.
Rojs Puks and
Stephen Mengich each qualified for the 1500 finals. Puks was ninth in 3:58.41 and Mengich earned the final spot in 12th at 4:00.31.
Through the first day of the multi-events,
Savanna Lawson is seventh in the heptathlon with 2,720 points. She was third in the 200 in 25.46 and seventh in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.17. Couch is 12th in the decathlon with 3,215 points, placing fifth in the 100 meters in 11.43 and eighth in the 400 in 52.41.
Events resume on Friday with decathlon events starting at 9 a.m. and heptathlon resuming at 9:30 a.m. Field events continue with the women's long jump at 12:30, while track events get back underway at 5 p.m. with the women's 100-meter hurdles.
