MONROE, La. – No. 15 Texas State used a three-RBI double from Daylan Pena to take the lead in the third inning and used a six-run eighth inning for insurance, pulling away for a 9-1 win over ULM Saturday afternoon at Warhawk Field to clinch the weekend series.
Cole Cressend (3-5) took the tough-luck loss for ULM (15-28-1 overall, 6-16-1 Sun Belt Conference), pitching a career-high seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits with two walks and a career-best eight strikeouts and left the game with ULM trailing 3-0.
Michelle Artzberger hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to plate
Austin Beech for the Warhawks' only run of the day, closing within 3-1.
However, Texas State (37-11, 19-4) scored six runs in the top of the eighth inning, using a pair of walks, a hit batter and four hits to do the damage. Pena finished with three hits and four RBIs to lead the Bobcats after picking up an RBI single in the eighth.
The series concludes at 1 p.m. Sunday at Warhawk Field.
