MONROE, La. – ULM women's basketball coach
Brooks Donald Williams announced Wednesday the signing of Olivia Knight, who finished in the Top 10 in the NJCAA in assists this past season. The 5-3 point guard from Pearl, Mississippi, was named MACCC Player of the Week on November 18 after hitting a half-court buzzer beater that landed Knight in the SportsCenter Top Ten.
"Olivia Knight is a winner in every way," Williams said. "We are ecstatic she is joining our program. We recruited Liv when we first arrived at ULM so this is an exciting day. She has made her mark in our game and as a student-athlete at every stop. She is a playmaker and high-level communicator. We are gaining experience and incredible leadership with Liv."
Knight started all 33 games in her lone season at Jones College. She averaged 11.5 points and dished out 5.5 assists per game which ranked her in the Top 10 in the country. She shot 81% from the free throw line and averaged three rebounds a game for the Bobcats.
"First, I would like to thank the man above for giving me the abilities to play the game that I love at such a high level," Knight said. "I would like to thank my family for being supportive through this process and the coaches that stayed beside me as well. This process has not been easy but I have found a place I would like to consider home. I chose ULM because of the coaching staff and the family-like environment."
Knight joins the Warhawks after guiding Jones to the semifinals of the NJCAA Tournament. She was named All-Region 13, All-Tournament and MACCC All-State.
Knight recorded a season-high 11 assists against LSU-Eunice on March 1 and scored a season-high 30 points versus Hillsborough College on December 10.
Knight played one season at North Alabama where she scored season-highs of 11 points at Missouri and 10 points at Purdue. She averaged 4.0 points and 1.7 assists per game during the 2020-21 season.
"Knight is a floor general," Williams said. "She has played for one of the best teams in the country at the JUCO level, was extremely well-coached in a system that breeds winners. Liv gives our team experience on the court to add to our talented backcourt."
Knight won a state championship at Pearl High School where she led the Lady Pirates to a 31-1 record and a Class 6A State Championship during her junior season. She averaged 11 points, seven steals and 5.8 assists during her senior campaign. She was a member of the Clarion Ledger Dandy Dozen, as well as a member of the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star team.
Knight joins Louisiana 3A Player of the Year Myca Trail, Louisiana Tech transfer Rhi Ockwell, West Monroe center Sha'Miya Butler and NJCAA All-American Amani Brown in the 2022 Signing Class.
