Sun Belt Conference Announces 2022-23 Men’s Basketball Schedule

Men's Basketball
MONROE, La. – The Sun Belt Conference announced the 2022-23 men's basketball schedule on Tuesday, July 12.

ULM's 18-game league schedule is comprised of 12 games against West Division rivals and six contests against East Division opponents. The Warhawks' slate also features four games against Sun Belt newcomers, including a home-and-home series against West Division rival Southern Miss as well as a pair of road games at East Division foes Marshall and James Madison. The Warhawks don't have a regular-season game scheduled against the third East Division newcomer, Old Dominion.

"Adding four new teams into the conference will bring a bit of newness and curiosity to league play this year," ULM men's head basketball coach Keith Richard said. "It should be an exciting and very competitive 18-game schedule."

The Warhawks play four of their first six Sun Belt Conference games in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

ULM opens its 17th season of Sun Belt competition with a road series at Texas State (Dec. 29) and Arkansas State (Dec. 31.)

Next, the Warhawks begin a four-game homestand against Georgia State (Jan. 5) and Southern Miss (Jan. 7), followed by the Ragin' Cajuns (Jan. 12) and Texas State (Jan. 14).

ULM hits the road for four consecutive games, beginning with trips to Georgia Southern (Jan. 19) and Troy (Jan. 21), followed by stops at Marshall (Jan. 26) and James Madison (Jan. 28).

The Warhawks start the month of February with a three-game homestand, including Coastal Carolina (Feb. 2), South Alabama (Feb. 4) and App State (Feb. 9), followed by a three-game road swing, including Southern Miss (Feb. 11), the Ragin' Cajuns (Feb. 16) and South Alabama (Feb. 18).

ULM concludes the regular-season schedule with a home series against Troy (Feb. 22) and Arkansas State (Feb. 24).

The Warhawks return five lettermen – all with starting experience – from last year's team that finished 13-18 overall, including 5-13 in Sun Belt play. Those five players – 6-foot-8 forward Nika Metskhvarishvili, 6-8 forward Thomas Howell, 5-11 guard Elijah Gonzales, 6-5 guard Langston Powell and 6-5 guard Johnnie Williams IV – combined for 68 starts a year ago. The trio of Metskhvarishvili, Howell and Gonzales combined to average 25.2 points, 12.4 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game in 2021-22.

ULM's 2022-23 roster also features seven newcomers, in 6-10 center Victor Bafutto (Mercer transfer), 6-0 guard Jamari Blackmon (North Alabama transfer), 6-4 guard Jalen Bolden (Zachary High School), 6-11 forward AD Diedhiou (UAB transfer), 6-4 guard Savion Gallion (South Plains College), 6-3 guard Devon Hancock (Milwaukee transfer) and 6-0 guard Tyreke Locure (UAB transfer) along with 6-7 walk-on forward Edwin Litolff (Doyle High School).

"I like what we have done with our team's roster," Richard said. "I feel like we got bigger inside and added more shot makers. We're looking forward to the upcoming season."

ULM's non-conference schedule along with all game times will be announced in the coming weeks.
