Merriweather Joins ULM Women's Basketball Roster

Women's Basketball
MONROE, La. - The final piece to the 2022-23 ULM women's basketball roster was secured Friday with the signing of 6-5 Emma Merriweather, a graduate transfer from Kansas, announced head coach Brooks Donald Williams.

"We are thrilled to sign Emma," Williams said. "She is a skilled post player and high-level finisher who understands angles and fundamentals. Her size and experience in the paint will impact us immediately."

Merriweather, a native of Lake Elsinore, California, who earned a Bachelor of General Studies in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Kansas in May, will have one year of eligibility remaining for the Warhawks.

The west coast standout got her start in Division I Women's Basketball at Long Beach State. As a freshman she played in 31 games with 19 starts, averaging 8.6 points per game and shooting 50% from the field. Merriweather finished the season with a team high 197 rebounds (6.4 per game).

As a sophomore, Merriweather transferred to the Big XII, redshirting at Texas Tech.

Merriweather played two seasons at Kansas, averaging 10.6 minutes per game as a redshirt sophomore in 2019-20. Merriweather had a season-high 10 points versus the Red Raiders and grabbed eight rebounds against Oklahoma State.

She played in seven games as a redshirt junior in 2020-21, averaging eight minutes per game. She had season-highs with six points and 10 rebounds at TCU.

"I am so excited to be a Warhawk and experience life in Louisiana," Merriweather said. "It's truly a blessing to be able to come back after taking some time away from the game. This year, I'm leaving it all on the court since this will be my last year."

Merriweather will link back up with the Warhawk's newest staff member. Chief of Staff Larry Tidwell was an assistant coach at both Texas Tech and Kansas during Merriweather's time at each school.

Merriweather was a four-year letterwinner at Lakeside High School in Lake Elsinore, California, where she broke the school record for blocked shots, was named to the All-Tournament Team, and earned All-League, All-State, All-Area and All-CIF honors during her prep career. She was also named Riverside Press Enterprise First Team All-Area after averaging 10.0 points, 13.0 rebounds and 5.3 blocks per game.

"Adding Emma and Sha'Miya (Butler) as well as returning Diamond (Brooks) gives our post depth an incredible boost," Williams said. "Our staff has done a tremendous job of identifying needs with experienced, impact players to balance our talented, youthful team. I think the thing we are most excited about it is the type of people we have on our roster right now. We have a special group of young ladies, and we can't wait to get to get them all on the floor together."

Merriweather joins Louisiana 3A Player of the Year Myca Trail, Louisiana Tech transfer Rhi Ockwall, West Monroe center Sha'Miya Butler, NJCAA All-American Amani Brown and Jones College standout point guard Olivia Knight in the 2022 Signing Class.
