MONROE, La. – The ULM volleyball team snapped a four-match losing streak with a resounding 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-15) win over Alcorn Tuesday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
ULM scored six of the final seven points to pull away in the first set, using kills by Bailey Botkin,
Logan Jeffus and
Taylor Thomas to fuel the run, picking up a 25-17 win.
In the second set, the Warhawks used a 6-1 spurt to separate from Alcorn early, going ahead 10-5 in a stretch that saw a kill and service ace by
Madeline Williams and another kill by Botkin. ULM had another 3-0 spurt late in the set, including a kill by
Tessa Gerwig and an ace by
Cameron Rogers, to reach set point. A service error on Alcorn closed it out, as the Warhawks took a 2-0 lead, 25-17.
ULM dominated the final set, sprinting out to a 9-3 lead with two kills by Williams sandwiched around an ace by
Kailey Friedrich. The lead hit 10 at 22-12 on back-to-back Alcorn errors. A kill by Gerwig and a service error brought ULM to match point, before a bad set by the Braves brought an end to the set, 25-15, and match, 3-0.
Williams had another strong night with 13 kills and a career-high matching four aces.
Bailey Roberson added 31 assists, while Thomas had 11 digs and Rogers had 10.
ULM plays its final non-conference weekend at the Battle for the Boot at Southeastern. The Warhawks open with Southern at 1:30 p.m. Friday, followed by SLU at 6:30 p.m. ULM rounds out the tournament with Northwestern State at 10 a.m. Saturday.
