MONROE, La. - Former ULM men's basketball player Amos Olatayo died in a tragic accident last weekend. He was 30 years old.
 
Olatayo played two seasons for head coach Keith Richard at ULM from 2012-14 after transferring from Navarro College. He started his career at Stephen F. Austin in 2010-11. He signed with Viten Getafe in Spain following his collegiate career. 
 
"It is with great sadness that we share the news of the loss of one of our former players, Amos Olatayo Jr.," Richard said. "Many of his former teammates, coaches and administrators have reached out to us and expressed their sadness as well. I remember how close he was with his family. Please keep them in your prayers in such a private and difficult time."
 
He played in 23 games with 19 starts as a junior at ULM in 2012-13, averaging 15.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He played in 14 games with 11 starts as a senior in 2013-14, averaging 13.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game before his season was cut short with an ACL injury. He had 28 double-figure scoring games in his career, topped 20 points six times and had two 30-point games. He scored 549 career points with 207 rebounds, 46 steals, 31 assists, 17 blocks and made 44 3-pointers.
