MOBILE, Ala. – Reigning Sun Belt volleyball champion South Alabama swept ULM in the first match of the teams' conference series Friday, 3-0 (25-7, 25-16, 25-16).
Madeline Williams had a ULM team-best eight kills with
Logan Jeffus and
Tessa Gerwig adding five each.
Cameron Rogers tied for a share of the game-high honors with 11 digs.

"Tonight, we had a good game plan going into the match, but failed to execute," said ULM head volleyball coach
Charlie Olson. "South Alabama played like the reigning Sun Belt Conference champion and overwhelmed us early and often. We have one more opportunity to make adjustments and fight through this adversity. Tomorrow (Saturday), we will put out a much better product on the court."

South Alabama hit .357 as a team with 35 kills and only six attack errors. ULM had 23 attack errors and produced its lowest kill total and hitting percentage of the year. The Jaguars added 10 service aces to only three for the Warhawks.

In the first game, the Warhawks and Jaguars were knotted at 4-4, but South Alabama dominated the rest of the way, spinning off a 14-1 scoring run. The Jaguars never looked back, allowing ULM just two more points for a 25-7 win.

The Warhawks took an early lead in game two, but the Jaguars built a double-digit lead and pushed to the 25-16 victory. ULM never led in the final game, falling by a 25-16 score.

ULM returns to Fant-Ewing Coliseum for a Thursday-Friday, Oct. 6-7 series vs. Southern Miss. Thursday's match is set for 6 p.m. and Friday's contest is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.
