THE STORYLINE –
ULM (6-13, 2-6 Sun Belt) plays its third of four consecutive Sun Belt Conference games in Fant-Ewing Coliseum on Thursday, Jan. 26 against league-newcomer Marshall (10-9, 3-5) at 6:30 p.m. It marks only the second-ever meeting between ULM and Marshall, including the Thundering Herd's first appearance in Fant-Ewing Coliseum. The Warhawks are 5-6 at home this season. Graduate center Emma Merriweather leads the Warhawks in scoring (9.6 ppg.), rebounding (9.2 rpg.) and blocks (2.7 pg.) Merriweather is averaging 13.7 points and 12.8 rebounds over her last six games, including five double-doubles.

THE TIPOFF –
• Thursday's game marks just the second meeting between ULM and Marshall. The only previous meeting came during the 2008-09 season when the Warhawks defeated Marshall, 69-67, in the Fifth Third Classic in Huntington, W.Va. Thursday's first-ever Sun Belt Conference meeting between the schools also marks the Thundering Herd's first appearance in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

• Graduate center Emma Merriweather leads ULM in scoring (9.6 points per game), rebounding (9.2 rpg.), blocked shots (48) and field-goal percentage (.565; 65-of-115). On a minutes-played basis, those statistics are equivalent to 17.7 points, 17.0 rebounds and 4.9 blocked shots per game. She has scored in double figures nine times this season, including six-straight games. Her 48 blocked shots rank No. 10 on ULM's single-season chart.

Merriweather is averaging 13.7 points, 12.8 rebounds and 4.5 blocked shots over her last six games, including five double-doubles. During that six-game stretch, she has connected on 56 percent of her field-goal attempts (30-of-54).

She recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 13 points and a career-best 19 rebounds, including six off the offensive boards, against Georgia Southern last Saturday. Her 19 rebounds fell just two shy of tying the Coliseum single-game record, shared by three players (21 each by Niela Gray vs. Nicholls, Feb. 3, 1996; Jab Johnson vs. Georgia, Dec. 10, 1988; and Renee Woodfin vs Alcorn, Nov. 29, 1986). Merriweather also blocked five shots by the Eagles.

She finished with 11 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high seven blocked shots against Texas State last Thursday.

Merriweather made 6-of-11 shots from the floor and posted a game-high 16 points to go along with seven rebounds (four offensive boards) and three blocked shots at Southern Miss. She recorded her third-straight double-double with 16 points (6-of-9 FG shooting) and 15 rebounds at Troy. Merriweather also blocked five shots against the Trojans.

The 6-foot-5 Merriweather, who recorded back-to-back double-doubles as the Warhawks earned a road split against Old Dominion and Coastal Carolina, was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, as selected by the league's head coaches and communications directors.

She tallied 10 points and 11 rebounds in ULM's 73-71 victory at Coastal Carolina, as the Warhawks ended a 22-game road losing skid (tied with Bellarmine for the nation's second-longest streak), including 19 straight in conference play. It marked ULM's first Sun Belt road win since defeating Texas State, 58-55, on Jan. 16, 2020. Merriweather also matched her season high with four blocked shots and set a career high with four steals against the Chanticleers.

A native of Buena Park, California, Merriweather scored a game-high 16 points and collected 14 rebounds (five offensive boards) at ODU. She hit 7-of-10 attempts from the field while contributing three blocked shots and two steals.

Merriweather leads the Sun Belt Conference with seven double-doubles this season. She ranks among the top three players in four different statistical categories in the Sun Belt: first in rebounding (9.2 pg.), first in blocked shots (2.7 pg.), second in offensive rebounding (3.8 pg.) and third in field-goal percentage (.565). Merriweather is listed among the NCAA Division I leaders in blocked shots (tied 10th) and offensive rebounding (20th).

A transfer from Kansas, Merriweather scored a career-high 30 points and collected a season-high 15 rebounds against Champion Christian and contributed 13 points and 10 boards against Central Arkansas.

• ULM's playing rotation features five players who are averaging nearly 7.0 points per game, including graduate center Emma Merriweather (9.6 ppg.), red-shirt senior guard/forward Kierra Brimzy (8.1 ppg.), sophomore forward Katlyn Manuel (8.1 ppg.), sophomore guard Olivia Knight (7.2 ppg., team-leading 26 3-pointers) and sophomore guard Bre Sutton (6.9 ppg.). Seven different Warhawks have led the team in scoring this season.

The 5-foot-9 Brimzy also has scored in double figures nine times this season. She matched her season high with 18 points (8-of-15 FG shooting) to go along with seven rebounds in ULM's 73-71 road win at Coastal Carolina, hitting a pair of free throws with 4.5 seconds left to break a 71-all tie.

Brimzy recorded her first career double-double against Champion Christian, finishing with 13 points and a career-best 10 rebounds. She also scored 18 points in the opener against Louisiana Christian.

• As a team, ULM leads the Sun Belt Conference and ranks No. 18 in NCAA Division I in blocked shots, averaging 5.1 per game. The Warhawks also rank fourth in the league and No. 39 in NCAA Division I in offensive rebounds, averaging 14.3 per game. In addition, the Warhawks are listed among the league leaders in three additional statistical categories: fifth in assists (13.5 pg.), fifth in offensive rebound percentage (.345) and sixth assist-to-turnover ratio (0.83).

• Second-year sophomore guard Bre Sutton is averaging 9.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists over her last six games. The 5-foot-9 Sutton has reached double figures in scoring three times during that stretch, including her first career double-double at Coastal Carolina, with a season-high 16 points and a career-best 13 rebounds.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS –
500 – Three ULM players have scored more than 500 career points, including sixth-year senior center Diamond Brooks (605), fourth-year junior guard Gara Beth Self (596) and sixth-year senior guard/forward Kierra Brimzy (536). Graduate center Emma Merriweather needs three more points to join the 500-point club.

130 – Super senior Diamond Brooks has appeared in more games (130) than other player in ULM history. Brooks is one of only six players who have played in at least 120 career games, joining Jasmine Shaw (123 games from 2010-14), Alexar Tugler (122, 2010-14), Elizabeth Torres (121, 2008-12), Larrie Williams (120, 2008-12) and Alayshia Hunters (120, 2012-16).

70 – The Warhawks are 5-2 this season when scoring 70 or more points.

34.5 – ULM, which ranks fourth in the Sun Belt Conference and 39th in the NCAA Division I in offensive rebounding at 14.3 per game, has collected 34.5 percent (271 of 786) of its rebounds off the offensive glass. Center Emma Merriweather (68 of 165; 41%) and forward Katlyn Manuel (43 of 97; 44%) rank 1-2 on the team in offensive rebounds.

26.8 – The ULM bench has outscored the opponents' reserves in 10 of the first 19 games while providing 26.8 points per game. The bench has accounted for 30 points or more in five games: 35 in the season opener against Louisiana Christian, a season-high 62 points against Centenary, 43 against Champion Christian, 35 against Alcorn and 30 at Troy. The Warhawk bench enjoyed a +54 scoring margin against Centenary (62-8). Overall, ULM's bench has outscored its opponents' reserves by 68 points, 510-442.

21.74 – ULM is generating 21.74 percent (268 of 1,233 points) of its offense from the free-throw line – the second-highest percentage of any Sun Belt Conference team. Only four other league teams are creating at least 20 percent of their points from the charity stripe: 21.75 by Georgia State, 21.0 by Louisiana Lafayette, 20.2 by James Madison and 20.1 by Texas State. ULM has outscored 12 of its opponents from the free-throw line (5-7 record). The Warhawks rank among the NCAA Division I leaders in free-throw attempts: No. 18 at 22.2 per game. That total is good for third in the Sun Belt, trailing only Georgia Southern (23.4 FTA pg.) and Troy (22.6 FTA pg).

11.0 – True freshman Myca Trail averaged 11.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in last week's games against Texas State and Georgia Southern while shooting 52 percent (11-of-21) from the floor. The 5-foot-10 Trail returned to the starting lineup for the first time since last November and scored 12 points against the Eagles, hitting 6-of-9 field-goal attempts. She added 10 points and collected a season-high seven rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench against Texas State.
