THE STORYLINE –
ULM (6-14, 2-7 Sun Belt) concludes its four-game Sun Belt Conference homestand on Saturday, Jan. 28 against South Alabama (5-15, 1-8) at 2 p.m. The Warhawks have lost five games in a row, including the first three games of the current homestand. ULM is 5-7 in games played in Fant-Ewing Coliseum this season. Graduate center Emma Merriweather leads the Warhawks in scoring (9.7 ppg.), rebounding (9.5 rpg.) and blocks (2.8 pg.). Merriweather is averaging 13.4 points and 13.1 rebounds over her last seven games, including six double-doubles.

THE TIPOFF –
• Saturday's game marks the 31st meeting between ULM and South Alabama. The Jaguars lead the all-time series, 21-9, including a 10-4 record in games played in Monroe, Louisiana. South Alabama has won the last eight meetings in a row, with ULM's last victory coming in Mobile on Feb. 25, 2016, 67-54. In addition, the Jaguars have won four-straight games in Fant-Ewing Coliseum. The Warhawks' last home win in the series came on Jan. 31, 2015, 55-53.

• Graduate center Emma Merriweather leads ULM in scoring (9.7 points per game), rebounding (9.5 rpg.), blocked shots (53) and field-goal percentage (.561; 69-of-123). On a minutes-played basis, those statistics are equivalent to 17.3 points, 17.0 rebounds and 5.0 blocked shots per game. She has scored in double figures 10 times this season, including seven-straight games. Her 53 blocked shots rank No. 8 on ULM's single-season chart. She has recorded at least five blocks in four of the last five games.

Merriweather is averaging 13.4 points, 13.1 rebounds and 4.6 blocked shots over her last seven games, including six double-doubles. During that seven-game stretch, she has connected on 55 percent of her field-goal attempts (34-of-62).

She recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 12 points and 15 rebounds (five offensive boards) and added five blocks in Thursday's 61-59 loss to Marshall.

Merriweather posted 13 points and a career-best 19 rebounds, including six off the offensive boards, against Georgia Southern. Her 19 rebounds fell just two shy of tying the Coliseum single-game record, shared by three players (21 each by Niela Gray vs. Nicholls, Feb. 3, 1996; Jab Johnson vs. Georgia, Dec. 10, 1988; and Renee Woodfin vs Alcorn, Nov. 29, 1986). Merriweather also blocked five shots by the Eagles.

Merriweather made 6-of-11 shots from the floor and posted a game-high 16 points to go along with seven rebounds (four offensive boards) and three blocked shots at Southern Miss. She recorded her third-straight double-double with 16 points (6-of-9 FG shooting) and 15 rebounds at Troy. Merriweather also blocked five shots against the Trojans.

The 6-foot-5 Merriweather, who recorded back-to-back double-doubles as the Warhawks earned a road split against Old Dominion and Coastal Carolina, was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, as selected by the league's head coaches and communications directors.

She tallied 10 points and 11 rebounds in ULM's 73-71 victory at Coastal Carolina, as the Warhawks ended a 22-game road losing skid (tied with Bellarmine for the nation's second-longest streak), including 19 straight in conference play. It marked ULM's first Sun Belt road win since defeating Texas State, 58-55, on Jan. 16, 2020. Merriweather also blocked four shots and set a career high with four steals against the Chanticleers.

A native of Buena Park, California, Merriweather scored a game-high 16 points and collected 14 rebounds (five offensive boards) at ODU. She hit 7-of-10 attempts from the field while contributing three blocked shots and two steals.

Merriweather leads the Sun Belt Conference with eight double-doubles this season. She ranks among the top four players in four different statistical categories in the Sun Belt: first in rebounding (9.5 pg.), first in blocked shots (2.8 pg.), second in offensive rebounding (3.8 pg.) and fourth in field-goal percentage (.561). Merriweather is listed among the NCAA Division I leaders in blocked shots (seventh) and offensive rebounding (16th).

A transfer from Kansas, Merriweather scored a career-high 30 points and collected 15 rebounds against Champion Christian and contributed 13 points and 10 boards against Central Arkansas.

• ULM's playing rotation features five players who are averaging nearly 7.0 points per game, including graduate center Emma Merriweather (9.7 ppg.), sophomore forward Katlyn Manuel (8.5 ppg.), red-shirt senior guard/forward Kierra Brimzy (7.8 ppg.), sophomore guard Bre Sutton (7.2 ppg.) and sophomore guard Olivia Knight (6.9 ppg., team-leading 28 3-pointers). Seven different Warhawks have led the team in scoring this season.

The 6-foot-1 Manuel has scored in double figures in a team-leading 11 games, including the last three in a row: 15 points against Texas State, 10 against Georgia Southern and matched her career high with 16 against Marshall. She is averaging 13.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists over the last three games while hitting 58 percent (18-of-31) of her field-goal attempts.

• As a team, ULM leads the Sun Belt Conference and ranks No. 15 in NCAA Division I in blocked shots, averaging 5.2 per game. The Warhawks also rank fifth in the league and No. 43 in NCAA Division I in offensive rebounds, averaging 14.2 per game. In addition, the Warhawks are listed among the league leaders in three additional statistical categories: fifth in assists (13.5 pg.), fifth in offensive rebound percentage (.346), seventh in rebound margin (+0.8 pg.) and seventh assist-to-turnover ratio (0.83).

• Second-year sophomore guard Bre Sutton is averaging 9.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.9 assists over her last seven games. The 5-foot-9 Sutton has reached double figures in scoring three times during that stretch, including her first career double-double at Coastal Carolina, with a season-high 16 points and a career-best 13 rebounds.

Only five other league teams are creating at least 20 percent of their points from the charity stripe: 21.8 by Georgia State, 20.5 by Louisiana Lafayette, 20.2 by Texas State, 20.1 by Coastal Carolina and 20.0 by James Madison. ULM has outscored 13 of its opponents from the free-throw line (5-8 record). The Warhawks rank among the NCAA Division I leaders in free-throw attempts: No. 23 at 21.9 per game.
