Warhawks Drop Second Match Against Cajuns, 3-1

LAFAYETTE, La. - Once again, the ULM volleyball team won the second set, but were unable to sustain the momentum and fell 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-15, 25-20) against the Ragin' Cajuns Saturday afternoon at Earl K. Long Gymnasium.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns (15-11 overall, 6-6 Sun Belt) started set one hot with an 8-4 lead. The Warhawks (4-22, 0-12) scored four-straight points to tie the game. The Cajuns scored seven out of the next ten points to hold a 15-11 lead going into the media timeout.
 
With the Cajuns holding a 20-18 lead, they went on a 4-1 scoring run to bring it to set point. A final service error by ULM gave the Cajuns the set.
 
The two teams started the second set in a close match. With the score at 12-11 in favor of the Cajuns, the Warhawks went on a 4-2 run to lead by one at the media timeout. With the game at 18-18, ULM produced a 5-2 run to take control of the set. A kill by Ariana Brown and a service error tied the match at one set each.
 
ULL raced out to a 9-3 lead in the third set. ULM responded with a 6-2 run to cut the lead to two. With the score at 15-13 with a Cajun lead, they went on a 6-1 scoring run to take control. A final 4-0 run gave the Cajuns the set.
 
Set four started close with a 7-6 Cajun lead. It then went on a 5-1 run to take a five-point lead. The two teams traded 3-0 runs to go into the media timeout. With the Warhawks trailing by two, the Cajuns added on to their lead with a 6-2 run. ULM tried to fight back with a 4-1 run, but it wasn't enough as a kill from the Cajuns secured the sweep.
 
Logan Jeffus led the team in kills with 14 and Bailey Roberson had 23 assists with 10 digs. Four players for ULM had double-digit digs with Cameron Rogers and Morgan Howard having 13 and Brynn Botkin having 12.
 
The Warhawks will return home to Fant-Ewing Coliseum for the final four matches of the regular season, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday against Arkansas State.
