FOLEY, Alabama – It was an unceremonious end to the 2023 season for the ULM volleyball team as it dropped its Sun Belt Conference Championship opener to App State, 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-22) Wednesday afternoon at the Foley Events Center.
The Warhawks came in as the no. 7 seed in the Western division while the Mountaineers were the no. 6 seed in the East.
App State (14-14 overall, 4-12 Sun Belt Conference) was able to set the tone early with separate scoring runs of 6-1 and 7-2. ULM made the set close having fought to a 24-21 score, but the Mountaineers were able to finish the job with a final kill.
In set two, the Warhawks (7-24, 3-13) held a 6-5 lead before five unanswered points from App State put it on top. The Mountaineers followed this with a 6-1 scoring run to increase the gap to eight. ULM was never able to get back into it as it fell behind 2-0.
With the season on the line, the Warhawks didn't go down quietly. They kept the match in a lock with an 18-18 score late. App State finally broke free with a 4-1 run to hold an all-important three-point lead. One more 3-1 run gave the Mountaineers the win.
Hannah Redrow produced 11 kills which led the Warhawks.
Morgan Howard and
Bailey Roberson had 18 and 17 assists each.
Cameron Rogers finished her milestone season with 18 digs.
