MONROE, La. – Kyle Kilgo has been hired as an assistant baseball coach at ULM, head coach
Michael Federico announced Thursday. Kilgo joins ULM as the team's hitting coach.
Kilgo spent the past four seasons as an assistant coach at UTRGV. The Vaqueros posted at least 30 wins in the three full seasons that Kilgo was on staff and qualified for the WAC Tournament each year it was contested. UTRGV finished 2023 37th in NCAA Division I in batting average and finished with 365 RBIs, the fifth-best RBI total in program history.
Kilgo helped coach an offense that posted big numbers in 2023. The Vaqueros ranked 37th in NCAA Division I in batting average. UTRGV hit 68 home runs, the second most in program history, and drove in 365 runs, the fifth best RBI total in program history.
The 2023 UTRGV offense was led by Brandon Pimentel, who signed with the Washington Nationals organization in July. Pimentel was an All-WAC and All-Region first baseman, hitting 19 home runs to become UTRGV's all-time leader in career home runs (31) and batting average (.389).
Kilgo also coached Isaac Lopez, a member of the WAC All-Defensive Team, who posted a .978 fielding percentage in addition to his .321 showing at the plate with nine home runs, 34 RBIs and 49 runs scored.
Kilgo joined UTRGV baseball as an assistant coach on Aug. 2, 2019. In addition to coaching responsibilities, Kilgo ran UTRGV's camps and clinics.
Prior to UTRGV, Kilgo was an assistant coach at Hill College for seven seasons. While at Hill, Kilgo helped six players get drafted, 31 elevate to the Division I level and 25 more move on to play for four-year programs. His responsibilities included working with the position players, and serving as the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator.
Kilgo came to Hill College after spending three years at the University of Dallas, where he helped create one of the most efficient offenses in program history, averaging 8.4 runs per game and 1.3 hits per run while ranking second in the nation in stolen bases.
Kilgo played collegiately at Kansas, for whom he was a third baseman and an outfielder, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics. Kilgo played his first two seasons at McLennan Community College, for whom he was a Second-Team All-Conference third baseman. Kilgo hit .385 batting average as a sophomore, leading the league with 27 doubles while committing just four errors.
Kilgo is married to Courtney Kilgo and the couple have a daughter, Lynlie.
