MONROE, La. – ULM head baseball coach
Michael Federico recently announced the signing of 21 student-athletes for the 2025 Warhawk baseball season. The class consists of 18 high school recruits and three junior college recruits.
Perfect Game ranked ULM's 2024 recruiting class at No. 52 nationally. It is the highest-ranked class in the Sun Belt Conference and seventh best nationally for schools outside of the Power 5 conferences. All are the highest rankings for ULM since Perfect Game started recruiting rankings.
A brief bio of each signee and comments from the coaching staff are included below.
ASHTON BASSETT | 6-0 | 195 | LHP | L/L | MAGNOLIA, TEXAS (MAGNOLIA HS)
Bassett has worked in the starting rotation for Magnolia High School in each of the last two seasons. He was the top starting pitcher for Bulldogs in 2023 and was named Second-Team All-District. He served as the third starter and pitched out of the bullpen as a sophomore in 2022 as Magnolia reached the third round of the playoffs. He enjos golf, hunting and fishing. He plans to major in biology at ULM. He is the son of Rob and Nicole Bassett.
Coach's Comments: Ashton is a low-90s strike throwing left hander that is expected to help immediately. He has a three-pitch mix with a feel for the game.
MAJOR BRIGNON | 6-0 | 185 | IF | R/R | CELINA, TEXAS (CELINA HS)
Brignon led Celina to a regional finalist appearance in 2023, going 35-5. He was named First-Team All-District at shortstop, hitting .360 with 36 RBIs, 13 doubles and one home run. As a sophomore in 2022, he helped the Bobcats reach the state semifinals, going 32-5-1. He was named First-Team All-District at shortstop, hitting .305 with 25 RBIs, seven doubles and two home runs. He has played for Dallas Tigers Bergman, winning the 2023 Connie Mack World Series. He enjoys golf, fishing and pickleball. He plans to major in sports marketing at ULM. He is the son of Brit and Mandy Brignon.
Coach's Comments: Major is a wiry, twitchy, above average defender at shortstop and will hit for power. He is one of the higher ranked middle infielders in the state of Texas. He has a high ceiling.
TRENTON BUCKLEY | 5-11 | 185 | UTIL | R/R | MAGNOLIA, TEXAS (MAGNOLIA HS)
Buckley enters his senior season in 2024 at Magnolia High School after helping the Mustangs to a state championship as a junior. He was selected First-Team All-District while hitting .327 with an on-base percentage of .435 and added 35 RBIs. He also has played for Hunter Pence Baseball from 2021-23. He enjoys fishing and hunting. He plans to major in construction management at ULM. He is the son of Cliff and Teresa Buckley.
Coach's Comments: Trenton throws in the low to mid 90s with his fastball and has a pro-level slider. Analytically, he is a guy to watch in the draft this year and the years to come if he makes it to campus.
ADRIAN BYRD | 6-0 | 205 | LHP | L/L | WIGGINS, MISSISSIPPI (MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST CC)
Byrd went 1-3 with a 6.11 ERA as a freshman at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in 2023. He struck out 41 batters in 35 1/3 innings, and fanned a season high seven in 6 1/3 innings against Nunez. He was a two-year varsity letterwinner at Stone High School, helping the Tomcats to a state championship. He threw 46 1/3 innings as a senior with a 1.21 ERA. As a junior in 2021, he threw 25 innings with a 2.52 ERA. He enjoys golfing and fishing. He is the son of Jim Byrd.
Coach's Comments: Adrian is a low 90s southpaw that flashes one of the best breaking balls we've seen at the JUCO level with a changeup to pair. He is an immediate impact guy with a starter type profile.
BEN COKE | 6-3 | 185 | OF | L/L | BULLARD, TEXAS (BULLARD HS)
Coke has helped Bullard High School to three bi-district and area championships and reach the regional quarterfinals three times. As a junior in 2023, he hit .343 with 21 RBIs and 23 runs scored as he earned First-Team All-District honors. As a sophomore in 2022, he hit .235 with one home run and 12 stolen bases as he was named Honorable Mention All-District. He has played club baseball for the Tyler Grays and T.H.A. Stix. He has also competed in track & field for Bullard, competing in the long jump, 4x200 meter relay and 200 meters. He enjoys track, golf and video games. He plans to major in business management at ULM. He is the son of Jeff and Mendi Coke.
Coach's Comments: Ben has speed and a good frame. Strength will come for him. He is a left-handed, physical outfielder, just how you draw them up. There is a bright future ahead for this East Texas native.
JACE DUHON | 6-3 | 165 | RHP | R/R | RAGLEY, LOUISIANA (SOUTH BEAUREGARD HS)
Duhon is a two-time All-District selection and a returning All-State selection entering his senior season at South Beauregard High School. As a junior in 2023, he helped the Knights reach the state semifinals, going 10-3 on the mound with one save over 87 innings, posting a 0.95 ERA with 134 strikeouts to 16 walks. He was named Class 3A All-State by the Louisiana Baseball Coaches' Association and Louisiana Sports Writers Association, named All-Region by LBCA, First-Team All-District, All-Southwest Louisiana and LBCA Underclass All-State West Team. He threw a perfect game against Pine Prairie. As a sophomore in 2022, he helped SBHS to a regional finals appearance, going 7-3 with one save over 69 innings with a 2.02 ERA with 61 strikeouts to 19 walks. He was a First-Team All-District and First-Team All-Beauregard Parish selection and named to the LBCA Underclass All-State West Team. He tossed a no-hitter against Hornbeck. As a freshman in 2021, he helped SBHS reach the state quarterfinals, going 4-2 with one save over 25 innings with a 2.23 ERA and 22 strikeouts to 11 walks. He played club baseball for the United Baseball Organization for three years. He enjoys hunting and fishing. He plans to major in construction management at ULM. He is the son of Jacob and Candace Duhon.
Coach's Comments: Jace has a good frame, hand speed, throws strikes and has multiple pitches, which is exactly what you ask for with a freshman arm. He has a very bright future with our strength and conditioning implemented. He is a south Louisiana product that pitches with composure and attitude.
BRENNAN EAGER | 6-2 | 200 | LHP | L/L | WEST MONROE, LOUISIANA (WEST MONROE HS)
Eager helped West Monroe to a 2022 state championship and has pitched at the varsity level for two years entering his senior season. As a junior in 2023, he helped the Rebels to a state runner-up finish and played through an injury, throwing 33 1/3 innings with 42 strikeouts to earn Second-Team All-District honors. As a sophomore in 2022, he helped West Monroe win a state championship and was named state championship MVP, First-Team All-District, Region Pitcher of the Year and First-Team All-State after posting a 9-1 record with 85 strikeouts. He has played for Team Louisiana for three years. He enjoys reading the bible, hunting, fishing and traveling. He plans on majoring in kinesiology with a minor in business at ULM. He is the son of Ryan Eager.
Coach's Comments: Brennan is a West Monroe southpaw who has a tremendous reputation as a competitor. He has elite command with a fastball in the high 80s. He is coming off a Tommy John repair. We can't wait to see him back on the rubber. He's a very good local product with a high ceiling.
AJ GARCIA | 6-0 | 160 | C | R/R | HOUSTON, TEXAS (CYPRESS LAKE HS)
Garcia is a three-year varsity letterwinner entering his senior season at Cypress Lake High School. He is a two-time All-District selection and served as a team captain as a junior in 2023. He is a three-time Academic All-District selection. He enjoys drawing and hanging out with his family. Sisters Alyssa and Audrey played college softball at Prairie View A&M and sister Abriana plays college softball at HCU. He is the son of Arthur and Angela Garcia.
Coach's Comments: AJ is one of the best catch-and-throw guys in the state of Texas. He has an absolute cannon of an arm, a quiet glove and a hit tool that gets better each time we see him. He has a very high ceiling. He has exciting potential with added strength.
HENRY GARCIA JR. | 6-2 | 210 | OF | R/R | NEW YORK, NEW YORK (HOWARD COLLEGE)
Garcia enters his sophomore season at Howard (Texas) College in 2024 after hitting .337 with four home runs, 31 RBIs, 50 runs scored and 23 stolen bases in 51 games as a freshman. He played three years of varsity baseball at James Monroe High School in the Bronx, New York, graduating in 2021. As a senior, he hit .375 while slugging .656, picking up 12 hits, 15 RBIs, 14 walks and 14 stolen bases in 13 games. As a junior, he hit .375 in six games with six hits, eight RBIs, four walks and three stolen bases. As a sophomore, he hit .367 in 49 games while slugging .482, picking up 51 hits, 38 RBIs, 18 walks and 20 stolen bases. He earned the Youth Service Award and was named Outstanding Player, Outstanding Hitter, the Versatility Award, Rookie of the Year and Most Developed honors. He enjoys golfing. He plans to major in business at ULM. He is the son of Henry Garcia and Rosa Lahoz.
Coach's Comments: Henry is a pro-type guy. He has good bat speed, power, he can run and has an above average arm. He put up huge numbers last year and doesn't look like he'll ever slow down. He is a physical, immediate impact player if he makes it to campus.
CARSON JOYNER | 6-0 | 200 | RHP | R/R | FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA (BAYSIDE ACADEMY)
Joyner was a Preseason All-State selection as a junior in 2023, helping Bayside Academy to a fourth-round appearance in the state playoffs. He was a Preseason All-State selection as a sophomore in 2022 on a deep pitching staff, throwing behind five pitchers that were committed to throw collegiately. He helped the Admirals reach the third round of the state tournament. He has played club baseball for Artillery Baseball, East Coast Sox and Memphis Tigers. Joyner also played football for Bayside as a long snapper, linebacker and fullback. He enjoys hunting and fishing. He plans to major in kinesiology at ULM. He is the son of Chris Joyner and Carla Midyett.
Coach's Comments: Carson is a stocky right-handed pitcher with a fastball in the low to mid 90s, paired with a breaking ball as good as you'll see in the high school ranks. He is ultra athletic and highly touted Alabama product.
JACKSON LANDRY | 6-5 | 215 | OF/1B | R/R | DONALDSONVILLE, LOUISIANA (ASCENSION CATHOLIC HS)
Landry helped Ascension Catholic to a state runner-up finish in 2023. As a junior, he hit .431 with eight home runs and 50 RBIs while also going 5-2 with a 2.81 ERA on the mound, earning First-Team All-State, All-Region, All-District, All-Metro and All-Parish as a first baseman and First-Team All-District as a pitcher. He was invited to play in the underclassmen All-Star game. As a sophomore, he helped the Bulldogs reach the state quarterfinals, hitting .315 with 10 home runs and 37 RBIs and was named First-Team All-State, All-Region, All-District, All-Metro and All-Parish as an outfielder and earned an invitation to the underclassmen All-Star game. As a freshman in 2021, he helped Ascension Catholic reach the state quarterfinals while hitting .280 with 27 RBIs, earning an Honorable Mention All-District selection. He also played football, where he earned three varsity letters as a wide receiver, defensive end and punter and was named First-Team All-District at all three positions. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club and Quiz Bowl team. He is a dual enrollment student, an honors class student, Senior Class secretary and was on the homecoming court. He enjoys hunting and fishing. He plans to major in business and finance at ULM. He is the son of Tony and Patricia Landry.
Coach's Comments: Jackson is built like an NFL tight end. He has some of the best power numbers in the state of Louisiana. He is a really good athlete. He is an outfielder and first baseman with a chance to see time on the mound as well.
STEPHEN LEWIS | 6-2 | 160 | RHP | R/R | MANVEL, TEXAS (MANVEL HS)
Lewis is a three-year varsity letterwinner entering his senior season at Manvel High School. As a junior in 2023, he was the top pitcher in the Mavericks' pitching staff and was a utility player when not on the mound. He was named the team's Most Valuable Pitcher. As a sophomore in 2022, he played both center field and shortstop on varsity. As a freshman in 2021, he played third base at the varsity level, helping the Mavericks to an appearance in the state playoffs. He played club baseball for Marucci Elite and the Astros Youth Academy. He also competed in football for Manvel, earning three varsity letters. He is a member of the National Honor Society. He enjoys cars, playing with his dog and spending time on the driving range. He plans to major in either biology or kinesiology at ULM. He is the son of Patrick and Demetria Lewis.
Coach's Comments: Stephen is a right-handed pitcher with feel for three pitches and a 12-6 curveball. He has a high ceiling. He's still growing into his frame, and once he's in our strength program, he will skyrocket. There's a very bright future for the Manvel, Texas, product.
JACK MARCANTEL | 6-2 | 190 | OF/1B | L/L | PLAQUEMINE, LOUISIANA (ST. JOHN HS)
Marcantel is a three-time All-District selection entering his senior season at St. John High School. As a junior in 2023, he was a First-Team All-District selection in the outfield, hitting .375 with nine doubles, four triples, one home run, 27 RBIs, 28 runs scored and 26 walks. As a sophomore in 2022, he was Second-Team All-District as an outfielder after hitting .294. As a freshman in 2021, he was Second-Team All-District as an outfielder and a pitcher, hitting .298 with two home runs. He has played for Elite Squad for five years, winning First-Team All-Tournament honors four times. He lettered in football all four years at St. John, playing defensive end, linebacker, defensive back, safety, wide receiver and tight end. He was a Second-Team All-District defensive lineman as a sophomore and First-Team All-District linebacker as a junior. He has been on the honor roll all four years. He enjoys football, working out, hunting and fishing. He plans to major in construction management at ULM. He is the son of Paul and Haley Marcantel.
Coach's Comments: Jack is a sweet swinging left-handed hitter. He is very athletic and one of the best outfielders in the state. With his strength and size, he could be a force in the middle of the lineup in the near future.
BLAYNE MCFERREN | 5-10 | 180 | IF | R/R | STONEWALL, LOUISIANA (NORTH DESOTO HS)
McFerren has helped North DeSoto High School to three district championships and a state title as a sophomore entering his senior season. As a junior in 2023, he was named First-Team All-District as an infielder, playing shortstop and third base while hitting .444 with 55 hits on the season. As a sophomore in 2022, he was a First-Team All-District pick at utility, playing infield and outfield for North DeSoto on its way to a state championship, hitting .333 for the Griffins. As a freshman in 2021, he was First-Team All-District as an infielder, hitting .320. He played club baseball for Knights Knation for four years. He is a member of the National Honor Society, is a Student of the Year candidate and on the Superintendent's List. He enjoys duck hunting and fishing. He plans to major in construction management at ULM. He is the son of Michael and Angela McFerren.
Coach's Comments: Blayne is a Louisiana product that is very twitchy, speedy and a strong-armed middle infielder. He plays with his hair on fire. He has an excellent hit tool and has really come a long way over the last year. He recently added strength and physicality. He is another gritty dirt bag player.
DALTON MEADOWS | 6-4 | 220 | RHP | R/R | MCCALL CREEK, MISSISSIPPI (FRANKLIN COUNTY HS)
Meadows is coming off a record-tying performance as a junior in 2023 entering his senior season at Franklin County High School in 2024. He tied the Franklin County High School single-season home run record with 13, helping his team to a 14-2 mark in district play. As a sophomore in 2022, he was named Second-Team All-State, hitting four home runs and led the team in pitching as the Bulldogs went 16-0 in district play. He enjoys hunting. He is the son of Jason and Jenny Golman.
Coach's Comments: Dalton is hard throwing and competitive. He is just scratching the surface. He has the potential to throw very hard once he's into our system. He also led the state of Mississippi in home runs as a junior.
MICAH ROBERTS | 6-3 | 185 | IF | R/R | ARGYLE, TEXAS (ARGYLE HS)
Roberts has helped Argyle High School to two district championships, two regional championships and two state runner-up finishes entering his senior season. As a junior in 2023, he started at third base and was named First-Team All-District after hitting .340 with one home run, 45 RBIs and 25 runs scored. As a sophomore in 2022, he started at third base and was named District 7-4A Newcomer of the Year after hitting .331 with two home runs, 42 RBIs and 28 runs scored. He has played select baseball from 10U and up, playing with the Desperados, Crushers, DBI, C3 Futures, D-Bat and USA Prime. He was named offensive MVP at the Five Tool Mickey Mantle. He played three years of varsity football at Argyle and was a two-year starter, playing wide receiver as a sophomore and cornerback as a junior and senior, earning All-District Honorable Mention after finishing with 56 tackles and three interceptions in his career. He has an accumulative GPA of 4.0 and is a Second-Team Academic All-State selection. He enjoys fishing, working out, playing catch and hanging out with friends. He is undecided on a major at ULM. He is the son of Joseph and Shara Roberts.
Coach's Comments: Micah is a corner infielder who seems to grow every time we see him. He is very physical with huge power numbers. He put up stellar numbers in one of the tougher leagues in the state of Texas. He has a pro type body and bat speed.
ZEKE SEOANE | 5-10 | 195 | C/IF | B/R | KELLER, TEXAS (TIMBER CREEK HS)
Seoane enters his senior season after starting as catcher for Timber Creek in 2023, earning Defensive Player of the Year honors for Region 1 in District 4-6A. As a sophomore in 2022, he split time between catcher and second base, hitting .289 with 26 RBIs. He was the starting second baseman on varsity as a freshman in 2021. He has played for 5-Star Performance National 2024, hitting .355 with 34 RBIs, 34 runs and two home runs while being named MVP at the WWBA South Invitational last summer. He has helped his club to back-to-back Perfect Game National Elite Championships. He enjoys lifting weights, golf and fishing. He plans to major in business administration at ULM. He is the son of Charlie and Melody Seoane.
Coach's Comments: Zeke is a switch-hitting catcher/infielder that already has a reputation of being an old school dirt bag player. He was highly recruited and has a high ceiling.
ISAIAH SHIVERS | 6-1 | 195 | OF | L/R | BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (WEST MONROE HS)
Shivers is a newcomer to West Monroe for his senior season after playing at Midwood High School in Brooklyn, New York. He led Midwood in hitting at .538 with three home runs as a junior in 2023. He hit .470 as a sophomore in 2022 and hit .500 as a freshman in 2021. He also played as a wide receiver in football. He enjoys playing video games. He is planning to major in finance at ULM. He is the son of Yolanda Shivers.
Coach's Comments: Isaiah has a pro-type skill set. He is physical. He has a beautiful left-handed swing. He has the potential to make an immediate impact.
HAYDEN THOMPSON | 6-3 | 200 | RHP | R/R | BRYANT, ARKANSAS (NORTH ARKANSAS COLLEGE)
Thompson is coming off his redshirt freshman season at North Arkansas College, where he had an 11.9 strikeout per nine inning rate. He missed the 2022 season after suffering an injury in the fall of 2021. He played high school baseball at Bryant High School. He enjoys hunting and fishing. He plans on majoring in business at ULM. He is the son of Randal Thompson and Shannon Jones.
Coach's Comments: Hayden is a fireballing Arkansas native with a fastball in the mid 90s this fall, and he's only scratching the surface. He has high pro potential if he makes it to campus. He has a three-pitch mix.
JACOB WALLACE | 6-3 | 230 | RHP | L/R | PINCOURT, QUEBEC (ECOLE SECONDAIRE DU CHENE-BLEU)
Wallace has played for Academy Baseball Canada, Langley Blaze Brewers Scout Team and Team Canada in his baseball career. He enjoys biking, playing golf, listening to music and playing video games. He plans to major in either business or sport management at ULM. He is the son of Alan Wallace and Claudine Reid.
Coach's Comments: Jacob is wise beyond his years. He has great stuff, a high baseball IQ and is one of the more polished arms in all of Canada.
ZACH WHITE | 6-1 | 200 | C/IF | R/R | MONROE, LOUISIANA (OUACHITA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL)
White enters his senior season with two state championships and one state runner-up finish under his belt at Ouachita Christian School in Monroe. As a junior in 2023, he hit .359 with a .489 on base percentage and .709 slugging percentage, picking up 33 RBIs with 15 doubles and seven home runs. As a sophomore in 2022, he slashed .435/.544/.765 with 22 doubles, two triples, four home runs and 46 RBIs. He opened his high school career in 2021 by hitting .222 with two doubles, three RBIs and six runs scored. He also played football at OCS, playing safety and running back for three seasons. He enjoys hunting, fishing and golf. He plans to major in biology at ULM. His brother, Barham, is on the 2024 ULM baseball roster. He is the son of Brent and Cheryl White.
Coach's Comments: Zach is one of the best local players in a long time. He is the backbone of a very good OCS team over the last couple of years. He has strength, bat speed, a high baseball IQ and will be ready to go on day one.
