OXFORD, Miss. – Bailey Couch won the men's decathlon, taking first or second place in six events, fourth in two more and fifth in another, leading six ULM men's and women's track & field athletes with Top-5 placings at the Joe Walker Invitational Friday and Saturday at Ole Miss.
Couch set a personal best with 6,304 points in the decathlon, and also set personal bests by placing second in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.79 seconds and fourth in the discus at 97-1 (29.59). He won the javelin with a throw of 177-9 (54.18), and was second in the 100 meters (11.22), 400 (52.64) and 1500 (4:43.95) in addition to the 110-meter hurdles. He was fourth in the shot put (34-2, 10.41 meters) and fifth in the high jump (5-10, 1.78 meters). He was seventh in the pole vault (11-7.75, 3.55 meters).
Joseph McEvoy took second in three decathlon events, doing so in the high jump (6-2.75, 1.90 meters), shot put (39-10.5, 12.15 meters) and javelin (150-9, 45.96 meters). He was third in the pole vault (12-11.5, 3.95), but did not register a cumulative score in the decathlon after not recording a score in four events.
Outside of the decathlon,
Jay Louison-Roe was second in the triple jump at 47-9.25 (14.56) and
Jona Fruchtmann was fourth in the javelin at 200-3 (61.04).
Cole Burgess set a personal best in the pole vault, clearing 15-10 (4.83 meters).
For the women,
Eliana Battle finished second in the 5,000 meters in a personal-best time of 18:10.09.
Kimone Campbell took fifth in the 800 Invitational in 2:09.68. Campbell also set a personal best in the 1500 in 4:34.30.
Claudine Raud-Gumiel was fourth in the heptathlon with 4,894 points. She finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (14.10) and long jump (17-9, 5.41 meters) and was fifth in the high jump (5-4.5, 1.64 meters). She set a personal-best in the 800 in 2:29.46.
