MONROE, La. – No. 25 Southern Miss scored 12 runs across the first three innings and picked up a 19-0 win over ULM Saturday at Lou St. Amant Field.
Christopher Sargent hit a pair of 3-run home runs in the first two innings, while Matthew Etzel hit a 2-run and a 3-run homer while Danny Lynch had a 2-run blast as Southern Miss (34-15 overall, 19-7 Sun Belt Conference) scored at least three runs in five different innings. Sargent and Etzel finished with six RBIs each while Etzel had four total hits and scored four times. Southern Miss piled up 18 hits as a team. ULM (16-34, 5-20) scattered four hits and stranded seven men on base.
Billy Oldham (6-3) threw five shutout innings for the Golden Eagles, allowing three hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.
Cam Barlow (3-6) threw just 1 1/3 innings and left the game following a one hour and six minute weather delay in the top of the second inning. He gave up three runs on two hits with two walks and one strikeout.
The series finale and home finale for the 2023 season for ULM is at 1 p.m. Sunday at Lou St. Amant Field.
