SAN MARCOS, Texas – The 2023 ULM baseball season came to a close with a 17-0 loss to Texas State in seven innings Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Ballpark.
Texas State (35-21 overall, 17-13 Sun Belt Conference) scored six runs in the second inning and added seven more in the third to break the game open. The Bobcats tallied four more runs in the fifth inning.
Jose Gonzalez had two hits, including a 3-run home run, with five RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Bobcats, while Davis Powell and Ben McClain had two hits and three RBIs apiece. Ryan Leary and Chase Mora each had two hits for Texas State.
ULM (17-37, 6-23) was limited to just two hits, coming from
Shawn Dalton Weatherbee and
Jake Haggard.
Texas State's Zeke Wood threw 3 1/3 shutout innings in the start, allowing one hit with four walks and one strikeout. Austin Smith (2-2) threw a perfect inning out of the bullpen to earn the win.
Hollis Huff (1-4) permitted six runs on six hits with two walks over two innings to take the loss.
It was the final collegiate game for two ULM seniors,
Travis Washburn and
Jarrett McDonald.
