Kean Signs Contract with Yankees

Baseball
MONROE, La. – ULM junior right-handed pitcher and catcher Chris Kean signed an undrafted free-agent contract with the New York Yankees Friday morning.

Kean signed with the Yankees just four days after the franchise drafted fellow Warhawk right-handed pitcher Nicholas Judice in the eighth round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Monday. He is the fourth Warhawk to be drafted by or join the Yankees organization since head coach Michael Federico took leadership of the program in 2018, joining pitcher Keegan Curtis (2018) and infielder Chad Bell (2019).

Kean played in just four games in his only season at ULM after suffering a foot injury prior to the season and an arm injury in April. He was 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA over 4 2/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. He threw a season-high 1 2/3 innings, giving up no runs on one hit and three strikeouts in his final outing against South Alabama on April 16. He tossed a scoreless inning with a strikeout in the win at Louisiana Tech on April 12. He made his ULM debut as the opener at Central Arkansas, throwing a scoreless inning with one hit and two strikeouts and was credited with the victory.
