CHARLESTON, Ill. – ULM dropped its final match of the EIU Panther Classic to Valparaiso, 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-13), Saturday afternoon at Lantz Arena.
The two teams went back-and-forth in the first set. ULM (1-2 overall) held a 16-15 lead, but a 5-1 scoring run by the Beacons (2-1 overall) took that lead away. The Warhawks were within two at 22-20, but with Valparaiso scoring three out of the last four points, they suffered a first set loss.
In set two, the Beacons jumped out to a 12-7 lead, but the Warhawks fought back with a 5-1 scoring run to close the gap. Valparaiso and ULM traded blows to make the score 20-18 in favor of the Beacons. Valparaiso used one last 5-1 run to win the set and go up 2-0.
The Warhawks were out of gas in the third set as the Beacons started hot and never looked back to complete the sweep.
Ariana Brown and
Madeline Villarreal both finished with eight kills each.
Bailey Roberson produced 12 assists with six digs, while
Morgan Howard had nine assists with eight digs.
The Warhawks return to Louisiana when they travel to Grambling at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
