SAN MARCOS, Texas – ULM couldn't avenge the loss suffered on Thursday as they fell 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-13, 25-16) against Texas State in the second match of the series Friday at Strahan Arena.
Set one started with a 4-0 start from the Bobcats (9-4 overall, 2-0 Sun Belt Conference) before ULM (4-12, 0-2) scored four out of the next five points to cut the lead to one. Texas State responded with a 6-2 run to increase the lead to five. With the score at 14-10 in favor of the Bobcats, the Warhawks went on a 7-2 scoring run to lead by one. With ULM leading by one, Texas State scored seven out of the last ten points to take the first set.
The second set started with the two teams going back and forth. The Warhawks created breathing room with a 5-0 scoring run to go up by four. The Bobcats responded with a 10-3 run to take back control. The Warhawks took the lead back with an 8-2 run. With the score at 24-23,
Logan Jeffus delivered the final kill to give the Warhawks the set and tie the match at 1-1.
In set three, it was close with a 5-4 Bobcat lead. Texas State then scored six straight points to pull ahead. The Bobcats never took their foot off the gas and rode the momentum to a blow-out set three win.
A 4-1 Warhawks advantage started set four before four straight points from Texas State gave it the lead. The two teams stayed in a deadlock throughout the set. With the score at 16-15 in favor of the Bobcats, they finished the set with a 9-1 run to finish the match sweep of ULM.
Although the Warhawks only had four less kills than Texas State, they had a .120 hitting percentage compared to .201 for the Bobcats. They also had 27 attack errors, which was eight more than the opposition.
Brynn Botkin once again led the team in kills with 15.
Bailey Roberson had 23 assists and produced 12 digs. Three other Warhawks had over 10 digs with
Taylor Thomas at 17, Botkin at 16, and
Cameron Rogers at 14.
ULM plays its home opener at 6 p.m. Thursday against South Alabama.
