Warhawks Win Second Straight, Take Out UNO in Four, 3-1

NEW ORLEANS – The ULM volleyball team ended the New Orleans Invitational with a win over the host Privateers, 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-12), Saturday afternoon at the Human Performance Center.

In the first set, the Privateers (2-6 overall) raced out to a 9-6 lead before three straight points by the Warhawks (3-7 overall) tied the set back up. ULM used a 6-1 run to gain a three-point lead, but it wouldn't last long as UNO answered with an 11-2 scoring run. A final kill by Courtney Roundtree ended the set.

In set two, ULM raced out to a 5-1 lead before a 5-1 run by New Orleans tied the set. With the Privateers holding a two-point lead, the Warhawks scored five straight to gain the advantage. With the score at 23-19 in favor of the Warhawks, an attack error and a service ace by Cameron Rogers secured the set win.

The two teams started the third set going back-and-forth. With the Warhawks leading by three, UNO went on a 5-1 run to take the lead. ULM didn't take long to respond as they scored eight out of the next nine points to take a six-point lead. The Privateers scored four in a row to close the gap to two points, but ULM scored the final two points to win the third set.

Set four was nothing short of domination from the Warhawks. A 9-0 and two 4-1 scoring runs helped ULM to a 13-point blowout to win the match.

Logan Jeffus once again led the team with 16 kills. Morgan Howard had a team-leading 26 assists with Bailey Roberson right behind her at 23. Rogers and Taylor Thomas tied with the team leading mark with 14 digs each.

The Warhawks continue their play in the boot with the Battle for the Boot tournament next weekend in Natchitoches. The tournament features matchups with Southeastern and Southern on Friday and the host school in Northwestern State on Saturday.
