Women's Basketball Preview: South Alabama

The Warhawks return to Fant-Ewing Coliseum on Thursday for a battle versus South Alabama.

TIP-OFF    
• The ULM women's basketball team returns to Monroe for a two-game homestand that begins on Thursday (Jan. 11) versus South Alabama in Fant-Ewing Coliseum. The game is set to begin at 5 p.m.

• Last time out, Lauren Gross tallied a career-high 20 points and drained six 3-point baskets, but the Warhawks fell to Georgia Southern in the final minute in Saturday's Sun Belt Conference matchup, 69-66. ULM shot 40% from three-point ranke and made 10 three-point shots while holding Georgia Southern to 30.4% three-point shooting. Daisha Bradford scored 13 points and finished with a team-high nine rebounds and four assists while Sania Wells netted 10 points and five rebounds. Jakayla Johnson registered nine points and tracked down five rebounds.

• The Warhawks secured its first SBC win of the season on Jan. 4 with an 82-65 road victory at Georgia State. Nunu Bradford sank a career-high seven three-point buckets and finished with 30 points in the win, shooting 11-for-16 from the field. Bradford's standout performance included five rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals. She reached the 30-point mark for the third time this season and was just three points shy of her career-high that she registered earlier this season versus Milwaukee. In Thursday's win, Sania Wells scored a season-high 18 points and threw in a trio of 3-point buckets to go along with three rebounds, two assists and one steal. Jakayla Johnson handed out a career-high eight assists and led the Warhawks with four steals. Johnson also contributed 12 points and five rebounds. Lauren Gross tallied a pair of three-point buckets and finished with eight points.

• Nunu Bradford was selected Louisiana Sports Writers Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season on Monday (Jan. 8). Bradford ranks in the SBC top 10 in five statistical categories, including the top 3-point field goals per game mark (2.9/game).

THURSDAY'S GAME BASICS    
ULM and South Alabama will meet for the 33rd time in history Thursday evening at Fant-Ewing Coliseum in Monroe, Louisiana.

Saturday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Chris Harris (play-by-play) and Mike Vining (analyst) on the call. The game also will air on KMLB 105.7 FM/540 AM and the TuneIn app on the Warhawk Radio Network from Learfield with Ben Milam on the play-by-play.

PREVIEWING SOUTH ALABAMA
South Alabama has started its conference slate with an 0-3 record after falling at home to Old Dominion in the SBC opener and dropping road games by double digits at Marshall and App State. The Jaguars hold a 7-5 non-conference record and are 3-3 in road games. Opponents have outscored South Alabama by an average of 26.4 points in conference play.

Florida State transfer Jordan Rosier ranks third in 3-point shooting percentage, making 39.5% of her attempts from beyond the arc. The junior guard has made 33 starts and 65 appearances in three seasons at South Alabama. Kelsey Thompson is the lone South Alabama player to average above 10 points per game. The sophomore from Mobile has averaged 11.4 points per game and has shot 31.9% from the field.

South Alabama is led by first-year head coach Yolisha Jackson, who was an assistant at South Alabama for seven seasons. Jackson was previously at South Florida and was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Bulls. Jackson was a standout player at Jacksonville University and finished with 1,070 career points.
