Warhawks Best South Alabama in Mobile, 68-60

ULM bounced back with an eight-point road victory at the Mitchell Center on Thursday night.

MOBILE, Ala. -- The ULM women's basketball team (16-9, 8-5 Sun Belt Conference) bounced back with a 68-60 road victory over South Alabama (8-18, 1-12) and snapped a four-game losing streak on Thursday (Feb. 15) at the Mitchell Center in Mobile, Ala.

Four Warhawks finished in double figures, led by Daisha Bradford with 17 points. Bradford was two rebounds shy of what would have been her third consecutive double-double and added three assists, a pair of blocks and one steal to her final numbers. Sania Wells and Katlyn Manuel both finished with 13 points while Jakayla Johnson scored 11. Wells was 5-of-8 from the field and tracked down four rebounds. Manuel tallied eight boards to go along with a steal and an assist. Brianna Harris posted nine points and eight rebounds.

The Warhawks were held to 14.3% shooting beyond the 3-point arc while the Jaguars averaged 42.1% from long distance. ULM doubled South Alabama's points in the paint total and outscored the Jags 36-18 inside. The Warhawks took care of the basketball and won the turnover battle 14-8.

With the score tied 6-6 after the first five minutes of the game, ULM bolted out to a 12-6 lead after jump shots made by Wells, Manuel and Johnson. Manuel was fouled with less than one second on the clock in the first quarter and drained two free throws to put the Warhawks ahead 14-8 after one quarter. The Warhawks carried the momentum into the second quarter and began the period on a 8-0 scoring run after a Bradford layup, two free throws by Johnson and layups by Harris and Bradford. ULM maintained a double-digit lead through most of the second quarter. Kyjai Miles dished an assist to Manuel under the basket to keep ULM in front by 14 with 2:12 remaining in the half. South Alabama trimmed the Warhawks' lead to 35-27 at the end of the first half.

The Jaguars crept back into the game and closed the gap to five points with 6:11 remaining in the third quarter. ULM raced back out to a double-digit lead following a free throw by Harris, a layup by Olivia Knight and a mid-range jump shot by Bradford. Bradford scored the final four points for ULM in the third as the Warhawks held a 46-36 lead heading into the final quarter of action. Harris threaded a pass to Manuel cutting through the lane to open scoring in the fourth quarter. The Jags cut the Warhawks' lead to seven twice in the final six minutes and trimmed the Warhawks' lead to six with 2:04 remaining. Wells and Johnson both delivered critical buckets inside the final two minutes to keep the lead out of South Alabama's reach. The Warhawks led for over 39 minutes of game time and secured the win on the road.

The ULM women's basketball team is set for a rematch against Troy and will play at Trojan Arena on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 17) at 2 p.m.
