ULM's High-Powered Offense Leads Warhawks to Run-Rule Win Over Lindenwood

Lourdes Bacon, Brooklin Lippert, Morgan Brown and Andie Edwards all had multi-hit games while Kassidy Giddens pitched a complete game shutout in Sunday’s win.

MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team (8-4) wrapped up the Warhawk Invitational with a run-rule 9-0 win over Lindenwood (2-8) on Sunday (Feb. 18) afternoon at the ULM Softball Complex in Monroe, La.

Kassidy Giddens sat down the first three Lions she faced with three pop-outs in the top of the first. Lourdes Bacon and Brooklin Lippert got the Warhawks started with infield hits. Morgan Brown blasted a double to center field and cleared the bases to give ULM an early 2-0 lead. Meagan Brown drove in her sister with another double to right center field. The Warhawks capped off the big inning with another run after Meagan Brown slid in safely at the plate on a Lindenwood wild pitch to put ULM ahead 4-0.

After Giddens completed her second consecutive scoreless inning, Bacon singled on a bunt with one out for the Warhawks' only hit of the inning. Giddens worked around a leadoff hit by Lindenwood after Elle Carter and Morgan Brown turned a 6-4-3 double play and kept the Lions scoreless. ULM's first two batters of the third inning reached safely when Meagan Brown was hit by a pitch and Andie Edwards poked a single to left. Carys Platt scored both runners with a triple to the center field wall. She crossed home plate on a Jacelyn Buck RBI groundout and the Warhawks led 7-0 after three innings.

Giddens again shut the Lions down with a 1-2-3 inning in the fourth. Lippert began the bottom of the fourth with a knock to center and Morgan Brown smashed her second double of the day to set up runners in scoring position for ULM. Lippert tagged up from third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Meagan Brown for ULM's eighth run. Edwards lifted an extra-base hit to right field and scored Morgan Brown on an RBI triple. Giddens ended the game with a trio of groundouts in the top of the fifth and the Warhawks finished the Warhawk Invitational with a 9-0 run-rule win in five innings.

ULM's hot bats were led by Bacon, who tallied three hits in three at-bats. Lippert, Morgan Brown and Edwards all went 2-for-3 while Meagan Brown, Platt and Carter all had one hit. The Warhawks smacked four extra-base hits with Edwards and Platt powering triples and both Brown sisters hitting doubles. Platt and Meagan Brown led ULM with a pair of RBIs each. In the circle, Kassidy Giddens held Lindenwood to just two hits and recorded a complete game shutout in her second victory of the season.

The Warhawks will prepare to host another tournament next weekend in Monroe when the Warhawks will welcome Northwestern State, Syracuse, Evansville and Sam Houston to the ULM Softball Complex. The Best on the Bayou Tournament begins on Thursday (Feb. 22) night when ULM plays Northwestern State at 6 p.m.
