ULM Drops Game One to Syracuse at Best on the Bayou Tournament

Morgan Brown hit an inside-the-park home run for her first collegiate dinger.

MONROE, La. -- The ULM softball team (9-5) had its three-game winning streak snapped on Friday (Feb. 23) night in a 6-1 loss versus Syracuse (8-3) at the ULM Softball Complex in Monroe, La.

Victoria Abrams retired the first six batters she faced and tallied a pair of punch outs. Carys Platt walked in the first, but was caught stealing on the next pitch in the first. The Orange cashed in two runs with a two-RBI base hit by left fielder Taylor Posner in the third.

On a 1-0 pitch in the bottom of the fourth, Morgan Brown lifted a deep fly ball to right center field. The ball ricocheted off the outfield wall and Brown scurried around the bases and slid in safely at the plate for her first collegiate home run. Syracuse maintained a 2-1 lead after four innings of play.

The Orange pushed the lead to four with a pair of runs in the fifth. Brooklin Lippert singled and stole second in the fifth but the 'Cuse kept the advantage at 5-1. Syracuse tallied one more run in the sixth to go up five. Platt reached base for the second time with a single up the middle in the sixth. Lippert singled again in the seventh and earned a multi-hit game.

The ULM softball team continues play at The Best on the Bayou Tournament Saturday with its second matchup versus Syracuse at 4:30 p.m. and a game versus Evansville at 7 p.m.
